In the national championship, two teams that have been vocal about their faith will compete.

Although Ohio State is favored to win the title game, many players attribute their confidence to their faith rather than statistics and analytics.

Several Buckeyes players discussed how their faith has influenced their performance on the field in interviews with Sports Spectrum this season.

In November, star receiver Emeka Egbuka told an outlet that over the past couple years, there have been several players on the football team who have rediscovered their faith in Jesus Christ. This was particularly significant to Egbuka during his freshman year.

During his interview, Egbuka, a graduate student, remembered the pivotal moment in his life. It was when he was invited to attend a mass with his teammates and felt a genuine connection to his faith for the first time.

"Since that moment, my life has undergone a significant transformation. A complete reversal, and I share a similar experience with many players on the team. We have been praying for a revival like this on our football team, and we have decided to share with everyone what God has been doing on our team."

Last season, Egbuka decided not to enter the NFL Draft because he felt a calling that was "more significant" than football.

"I felt the Lord guiding me to return to Ohio State for another year. The Lord posed a question to me, testing my heart: "If you decide to come back for this next year, you will have a significant platform, a large following, and numerous accolades. You will have a name to uphold, and you can choose to either use this moment to glorify me or yourself." I viewed this as a challenge and something I had to accomplish."

Despite his successful rookie season and NIL deals, TreVeyon Henderson revealed in a separate interview that he had turned to his faith following an injury.

"Jesus rescued me from the path of destruction and placed me on the path of everlasting life."

Gee Scott Jr. stated that this season has been marked by a significant spiritual transformation.

"In 2024, the world we live in presents many options for surrendering one's life, but I commend those who publicly declare their commitment to Christ."

Riley Leonard, Notre Dame quarterback, commended both teams for openly discussing their faith and believes it is a significant factor in their competition for the college football championship.
