What is Ryan Wesley Routh's occupation: Alleged gunman at Trump golf club
A 58-year-old man residing in Hawaii is Ryan Wesley Routh.
The man, 58 years old, who was accused of pointing an AK-47 at former President Donald Trump on Sunday afternoon has a long history of arrests that date back several decades.
Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested following the incident at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. According to authorities, Secret Service agents fired at him after spotting the barrel of his AK-47 protruding through a chain-link fence one hole in front of where Trump was playing.
Authorities are treating the episode as an apparent assassination attempt on Trump.
Officials conducted a background check on Ryan Wesley Routh and discovered that he resides in Hawaii and has a history of run-ins with law enforcement dating back to the 1990s.
Routh, a native of North Carolina, has a history of arrests for simple drug possession, driving without a license, expired inspection, and operating a vehicle with no insurance. In 2002, the Greensboro News & Record reported that Routh was arrested after barricading himself in his roofing company's office during a three-hour standoff that followed a traffic stop in which he put his hand on a gun before fleeing.
Since 2017, Routh has been residing in Hawaii and has established a new construction company that constructs basic housing units for homeless individuals, as per his LinkedIn profile.
An official stated after the Sunday afternoon incident that the individual carrying an AK-47 outside Trump's club did not seem to be a random person.
The news of the incident emerged soon after Trump left the golf course safely.
An AK-47, go-pro camera, and two backpacks were abandoned by a would-be gunman while Trump was playing on the course's fifth hole. Officials say the Secret Service member spotted him and he abandoned his belongings along a chain-link fence that borders the sixth hole of the course.
An SUV was used by Routh to escape after a Secret Service member fired at him, resulting in his arrest, according to authorities.
Trump's campaign promptly released a statement confirming the 45th president's safety, with Trump subsequently reassuring his supporters that he would never surrender.
The Secret Service opened fire on a man who lifted an AK-47, and the suspect fled in a car but was quickly apprehended, authorities said.
In my area, there were gunshots, but before rumors spread, I wanted to assure you: I am safe and okay. He posted this message on social media.
"I will never surrender, and nothing will slow me down. I will always love you for supporting me. Unity, peace, and making America great again are my goals. May God bless you."
