During a campaign rally in Michigan on Thursday, former President Trump promised that if he gets reelected, he would make in vitro fertilization treatment free for women.

"Trump announced at Alro Steel in Potterville, Michigan, that under his administration, the government will cover all costs associated with IVF treatment or insurance companies will be mandated to do so. The reason for this is to increase the number of babies."

The cost of IVF treatments can reach tens of thousands of dollars for a single round, and many women need multiple rounds with no assurance of success.

Trump stated that new parents will be able to deduct significant newborn expenses from their taxes for the same reason.

Trump's announcement, lacking specifics, follows the Republican nominee's appointment of Supreme Court justices who reversed Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion issue to the states.

Trump has attempted to portray himself as a moderate on the issue, even stating that he is "very strong on women's reproductive rights."

In an interview with NBC, Trump indicated his support for modifying Florida's six-week abortion restriction, which restricts the procedure before many women become aware of their pregnancy.

In the interview, Trump did not reveal how he would vote on the ballot measure, but he reiterated his previous criticism that the law, which was signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis last year, is overly restrictive.

"I believe six weeks is insufficient. We require more time," he stated. "I will be advocating for more than six weeks."

Previously, Trump described DeSantis' decision to sign the bill as a "terrible mistake."
