Trump expresses support for delaying Florida's heartbeat bill: "more time is needed."
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and religious leaders have criticized the attempt to repeal the six-week abortion ban.
Donald Trump, the former president, stated that Florida's six-week abortion ban is too brief, indicating that he might vote in favor of a ballot initiative to overturn the six-week abortion ban in the state.
Trump stated to an NBC News reporter that he believes the six-week timeframe for Florida's Amendment 4 is insufficient and that more time is necessary. He emphasized this point by saying, "I've made it clear that I want more weeks."
The reporter then pressed if Trump will vote in favor of the amendment.
"I accomplished the termination of Roe v. Wade after 52 years of wanting it, and now it's back in the hands of the states. Exceptions are crucial for me, as well as others who have navigated this complex and challenging journey," Trump stated.
On Thursday evening, Planet Chronicle Digital was informed by the Trump campaign that the 45th president has not yet disclosed how he will cast his vote on the Amendment.
Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign national press secretary, stated that President Trump has not yet disclosed his stance on the Florida ballot initiative and only reiterated his belief that six weeks is an insufficient timeframe.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis enacted The Heartbeat Protection Act in 2020, prohibiting most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. Now, Floridians will decide on Amendment 4, Right to Abortion Initiative, which aims to repeal the ban.
The amendment states that no law can hinder or limit access to abortion before viability or when it is necessary to safeguard the patient's health, as determined by their healthcare provider. This amendment does not affect the Legislature's constitutional power to mandate notification to a parent or guardian before a minor undergoes an abortion.
During an event in Potterville, Michigan, on Thursday, Trump discussed his comments about Amendment 4 in an interview.
During the interview with NBC News, he stated that she asked him about abortion and he handled it with grace. He added, "You know what? That's so overplayed. We have abortion. We have the whole thing brought back into the states where it belongs. That's where everybody wanted it for years and years and years, and they are voting on it."
Ronald Reagan believed in exceptions for life of the mother, rape, and incest, which is supported by 90% of people. However, the real radicals on this issue are the Democrats, who allow abortions in the ninth month and even after the baby is born in six states.
The pro-choice amendment in Florida has been opposed by Republicans and religious leaders, including DeSantis, who stated that its potential passage would mark the demise of the pro-life movement.
Earlier this month, DeSantis stated at an event at Jesuit High School in Tampa that he believes the defeat of pro-life advocates in Florida represents the end of the pro-life movement.
""If Florida's pro-life majority is not maintained, it may pass," DeSantis cautioned."
Florida's Catholic leaders have condemned the proposed amendment as "serious" and urged all "conscientious citizens" to vote against it.
The Catholic bishops of Florida are calling on all Floridians of goodwill to stand against the legalization of late-term abortion and oppose the abortion amendment. By doing so, they aim to protect the weakest, most innocent, and defenseless of human life among us and countless women throughout the state from the harms of abortion.
DeSantis' signing of the six-week abortion ban last year was criticized by Trump as a "terrible mistake" and "terrible thing."
Vice President Kamala Harris and her 2024 presidential campaign claim that the 45th president would impose a federal abortion ban if re-elected to the White House, which Harris cited in her nomination acceptance speech last week at the DNC in Chicago.
Donald Trump's agenda includes limiting access to birth control, banning medication abortion, and enacting a nationwide abortion ban, potentially forcing children who have survived sexual assault to carry pregnancies to term. This is happening in our country, and it is not over yet.
Instead of imposing a federal abortion ban, Trump supports leaving abortion laws to the discretion of individual states.
In an interview on Sunday, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump's 2024 running mate, refuted Democrats' allegations that Trump would enforce a federal ban if re-elected.
In an interview on "Meet the Press," host Kristen Welker questioned Vance about the Democrats' argument that Donald Trump would impose a federal ban on abortion if elected, and asked if he could commit to not doing so if he and Trump were elected.
"I am fully committed to that, Kristen. Donald Trump has made it abundantly clear on the abortion issue. It's crucial to examine the differences between what Donald Trump said on the abortion question and what Kamala Harris and the Democrats have stated. Donald Trump's goal is to put an end to the cultural conflict surrounding this topic."
If California wants to have a different abortion policy from Ohio, then Ohio must respect California, and California must respect Ohio. Donald Trump believes that individual states should make their own decisions on this issue, as it is important to avoid federal conflict. The federal government should focus on reducing food and housing prices, as these are important issues that Kamala Harris has failed to address.
