Top Democrats defend Harris' shifting policy positions, praising her leadership skills.
Rep. Ro Khanna believes the vice president is consistent.
During the extended Labor Day weekend, Democratic officials rallied in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, countering accusations that she has been inconsistent on several policy issues.
According to Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, who appeared on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, a good leader continuously learns and grows.
During a Labor Day appearance on CNN, Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Penn., stated that most voters understand that as they gain more knowledge, experience, and hold different jobs, there would be a natural progression.
Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., characterized her as a "progressive who is pragmatic" and "consistent" in her policy approach during her appearance on NBC's "Meet The Press" over the weekend.
In her first interview as the Democratic nominee on Thursday, Harris stated that she would "enforce" the law against illegal border crossings, a stance she had previously indicated she was against during her 2019 campaign for president.
In 2020, Harris clarified that she does not support a ban on fracking, even though she had previously stated as a presidential candidate in 2019 that she was in favor of banning it on federal land.
"What about Donald Trump's inconsistency on abortion? Isn't that the same as her inconsistency on the issue?" Khanna questioned on Sunday. "I believe the vice president is consistent on the position of fracking, which aligns with how Joe Biden ran."
Medicare for All is not supported by Harris, as campaign officials have stated. Despite indicating during a 2019 debate that she would abolish private healthcare in favor of a government-run plan, Harris has not publicly shared her stance on a single-payer healthcare system. Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to the Harris campaign for clarification on her position, but did not receive a response.
Khanna stated that she ran against her as a co-chair of Bernie Sanders' campaign in the 2020 primary because she was not in favor of Medicare for All.
Harris' changing positions were viewed as evidence of strong leadership by Polis and Boyle.
Polis stated that Kamala Harris is a pragmatic leader who considers data and science when making decisions, regardless of whether it's a move to the middle, left, or right.
"Boyle stated to CNN that he does not have the same positions on fracking today as he did 15 years ago when he was first elected, but he believes that this is a natural part of growth. He emphasized that the most important thing is whether the policy position ultimately arrived at is correct, and in the case of Kamala Harris, he believes she did."
Boyle stated that there is no comparison between Kamala Harris and the constant, unending flip-flops on most issues of Donald Trump.
