The top two primary contenders for Washington's 3rd congressional district have been declared winners.
VP Harris has not received an endorsement from Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez.
In the 3rd congressional district of Washington state, Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and Republican Joe Kent have emerged as the top two candidates following the primary election, setting up a direct contest in November.
In Washington state, all candidates, regardless of party, are included on the primary ballot and the top two candidates advance to the general election.
Since 2022, Gluesenkamp Perez has represented Washington's 3rd Congressional District, which encompasses the southwestern counties of Lewis, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark, and Skamania, as well as a small portion of southern Thurston county.
Gluesenkamp Perez emerged unexpectedly to defeat Kent, who was backed by Trump, in a district that had been Republican-held for over a decade. She succeeded a more moderate Republican who lost the primary due to her vote to impeach Trump following the January 6th Capitol Hill riot.
Kent, who lost to Gluesenkamp Perez by less than a percentage point in 2022, received Trump's endorsement for the second time.
Trump endorsed Joe as a Gold Star Husband and a Special Forces Combat Veteran who bravely served our country.
"No one can match Joe's skills and abilities in any way, shape or form. In Congress, Joe will relentlessly strive to boost the economy, curb inflation, maintain the rule of law, safeguard our borders, support our military and veterans, and safeguard our cherished Second Amendment."
Gluesenkamp Perez, who was ranked as having one of the most bipartisan voting records in the U.S. House, has not yet endorsed VP Kamala Harris for president and her office stated that she has "no plans" to do so.
In the 3rd Congressional District primary, both Republican Leslie Lewallen and Independent John Saulie-Rohman were candidates.
Lewallen, a former King County prosecutor, posed a tough challenge to Kent as she gained support from conservative voters seeking to shift the seat towards more moderate Republican control.
