According to an investigation by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Secret Service agents assured law enforcement in Butler County, Pennsylvania, that they would secure the building where Thomas Crooks shot former President Trump and others during an outdoor rally on July 13.

According to Grassley's office, in a Tuesday letter to acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, the agents responded to the concerns of Butler County law enforcement officials about securing the AGR complex buildings during a walkthrough, saying "we will take care of it."

During a July rally in Pennsylvania, Trump was shot in the ear and one attendee was killed while two others were critically injured. The shooter had positioned himself atop a nearby building and had been known to law enforcement who observed him ahead of the event.

The senator questioned Rowe about the accuracy of the claim made by Butler County law enforcement officials regarding the AGR complex buildings and what measures the Secret Service took to secure the area.

During a hearing, Rowe informed senators that the locals had a plan and had been present on the roof of the AGR building where Crooks took his shots from, in the weeks following the first assassination attempt.

Law enforcement officials disputed this claim in interviews with Grassley's staff, according to him.

On July 11, during a walkthrough in preparation for the rally, Secret Service agents allegedly committed to securing the AGR complex area. Law enforcement officials had previously alerted the agents to their concerns about the area multiple times.

The Republican repeated his demand for information to the Secret Service, stating that at least two requests had resulted in claims that the agency would not respond due to ongoing investigations and reviews.

The senator accused the action of being unacceptable and disregarding Congress's constitutional authority to conduct independent oversight, as well as contradicting their own congressional testimony about responding to Congress.

Grassley's investigation is examining several incidents, including the July 13 assassination attempt, the alleged Iranian agent's plot to assassinate a politician or U.S. official, and the second assassination attempt on the former president that occurred in Florida on Sunday.

Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from the Secret Service when requesting a comment.
