Since 2021, over 1K individuals with suspected or confirmed ties to terrorism have attempted to enter the country through its northern border.
In the past fiscal year, the number of apprehensions made by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sector on the northern border surpassed the total of the previous 13 years.
In the 10 months of fiscal year 2024, the Swanton Sector Border sector recorded 15,000 apprehensions, which is the largest volume ever recorded by the sector, over 14,000 more than was recorded in fiscal year 2021, according to a report on CBS 19.
The border sector, which encompasses 295 miles of the Canadian border and includes all of Vermont and parts of upstate New York and New Hampshire, has experienced a significant increase in apprehensions this fiscal year, with numbers exceeding the previous 13 years combined. The report also notes that illegal migrants from 85 different countries have attempted to cross the border in this area.
Despite the ongoing debate over illegal immigration, the report highlights the growing concern among voters about the increasing number of illegal crossings at the southern border between 2021 and 2023.
