The New York Times should issue an apology for a column that was accused of inciting violence against JD Vance, who was labeled as a proponent of "blood-and-soil nationalism."
The New York Times' article has been criticized for implying that JD Vance is a Nazi following the Trump assassination attempt.
Social media users criticized the New York Times for an opinion piece that accused Sen. JD Vance of promoting "blood-and-soil nationalism." The article by Jamelle Bouie was published on Saturday with the title "JD Vance’s Blood-and-Soil Nationalism Finds Its Target."
Despite backlash on social media, the Times modified its headline to "Is JD Vance the Right Choice for Ohio?" Nevertheless, Bouie's criticism of Vance's "blood-and-soil nationalism" and his potential to escalate his anti-immigrant rhetoric beyond a mere campaign strategy persisted.
The Times article was criticized for inciting violence against Vance and labeling him a Nazi, just two months after the assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania. Vance's wife, Usha, is the daughter of Indian immigrants, and the couple has three biracial children.
"The New York Times has descended to labeling JD Vance a Nazi in a headline, according to Republican strategist Andrew Surabian, who shared a screenshot of the original article. Surabian called the content "truly vile" and urged the paper to retract it and offer an apology if they had any ethical standards."
"Months after a psychopath attempted to assassinate my father, the @nytimes is now attempting to incite violence against @JDVance," Donald Trump Jr. tweeted.
The Republican presidential nominee's eldest son added, "PS: JD is the father of 3 biracial kids, which makes this smear even more disgusting!"
"Taylor Van Kirk, the national press secretary of Vance, condemned the New York Times for publishing "disgusting bile" against President Trump, who is a father of three biracial children. Van Kirk stated that the Times' headlines were "abhorrent" and that they were "no wonder why countless people are asking if the purpose was to incite violence against Senator Vance." Van Kirk urged the Times to retract the headline and come to their senses."
"Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, with 3.4 million followers, stated that the Times is directly labeling JD Vance a Nazi, which is the kind of propaganda that almost led to President Trump's assassination."
The Times did not immediately respond when Planet Chronicle Digital contacted them for comment.
In the Times article, the columnist disagreed with Vance's assertions regarding Springfield, Ohio, where locals have observed an increase in crime, chaos, and car accidents as a result of the arrival of approximately 20,000 Haitian immigrants to the town, which previously had a population of around 58,000 people since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vance and Trump, along with residents at city council meetings, have claimed that Haitians are killing and eating ducks in parks and pet cats and dogs. However, local officials stated that they have not received any reports of such incidents.
"Bouie wrote that Vance values the identity, origin, and appearance of Haitian immigrants, stating that they do not belong to the soil and therefore do not belong. Currently, Vance can only use his words to fight this war, and it is terrifying to imagine what could happen if he had the power of the state to wield as well."
The Times' article on Vance was criticized by former State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus for attacking him despite the rise of antisemitism under the Biden-Harris administration since the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel.
"Jewish Americans are unable to safely wear religious symbols in many places in America under the Biden-Harris Administration. Jewish students are harassed, intimidated, and calls for their genocide, which are eerily reminiscent of the holocaust, permeate educational institutions. Our generation of Jews has experienced levels of antisemitism that we haven't felt since WW2. However, the legacy media tries to paint my friend @JDVance as the problem for American Jews. Despite this, I can confirm from my public and private conversations with him that he is ardently pro-Israel and refuses to tolerate the open season on Jewish Americans that has flourished under the Biden-Harris Administration."
She expressed excitement for the Oct 1st VP debate, stating that JD would definitely reveal Walz and Harris's positions on these issues.
"It is disgraceful that the media is now spreading false, violent accusations about JD Vance, two months after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump," wrote Alex Bruesewitz, a campaign adviser for Trump, on X. "Furthermore, it is important for the media and the left to remember that JD is the father of three biracial children. They should immediately retract their statements and offer an apology to JD."
