The Carter family shares how the former president felt about Biden's decision to quit, while the DNC speaker stole the show.
According to the former president's grandson, Jimmy Carter, Michelle Obama was the best speaker at the 2024 DNC.
While in hospice care and mourning the loss of his wife, Rosalynn Carter, and their son, Jimmy Carter is closely monitoring the election cycle, as revealed in a recent interview.
Last week, James Earl "Chip" Carter III, the second child of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, stated to the Washington Post that he does not believe Donald Trump should be president again.
Carter, the longest-lived American president at 99, has remained committed to following the presidential election despite entering hospice care in February of last year, his son said. Last month, the 39th president watched the speakers of the DNC, who gathered in Chicago in support of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s presidential campaign.
Carter's son stated that the former president considered Harris' speech to be excellent, but acknowledged that another speaker outshone him during the event.
Chip Carter stated that he believed Michelle Obama was exceptional and also considered Kamala to be impressive.
Last month, during the DNC, Carter usually spent his days watching baseball games on TV, 1950s TV shows like "Leave it to Beaver," and eating mini red velvet and caramel flavored cupcakes, according to his family.
Biden officially dropped out of the presidential race in July due to concerns about his mental acuity and age, his son announced to an outlet. Carter, who was present during Biden's address, described the moment as "sad" as the 46th president passed the torch to a younger generation of Democrats.
The former president opposes Trump's re-election, his son stated, explaining that his father believes Trump is not truthful when he speaks publicly. Carter also emphasized that voting for Harris on November 5th is crucial for the former president.
On Oct. 1, Carter will turn 100, and his son Chip Carter has refuted rumors that his father is still alive to celebrate the occasion.
"He stated that he was indifferent to that matter, it being merely a birthday. However, he emphasized the importance of voting for Kamala Harris."
Chip Carter stated that he is highly invested in this campaign.
In November, Carter experienced tragedy when his wife of 77 years passed away after being admitted to hospice care. Rosalynn Carter, who was 96, died peacefully at her home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by her loved ones on a Sunday in November.
"Rosalynn was my equal partner in all my accomplishments," President Jimmy Carter stated after her passing. "She provided me with wise counsel and encouragement when I needed it. With Rosalynn by my side, I always knew someone loved and supported me."
Jason Carter, the grandson of Jimmy Carter, revealed to the Washington Post that the former president experienced a "low period" following his mother's death but has since become more enthusiastic about discussing the election cycle.
"Following the death of his grandmother, Jason Carter experienced a prolonged period of low engagement. However, he is now discussing politics once more."
Last month, on her birthday, Jimmy Carter and his family paid their respects at Rosalynn Carter's grave, with the former president quietly sitting at her headstone for approximately 20 minutes.
"He was gazing at her grave, and I began speaking, and he instructed me to hush," Chip Carter stated. "Perhaps he was praying, but he might have simply been conversing with Mom."
