Texas Dem's Senate ad showcases his change of heart on the border wall.
This summer, Colin Allred, a Dem representative, featured the border wall in his campaign ad.
In a recent Senate campaign ad, Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, showcased the southern border wall, even though he had previously stated that the wall proposed by former President Trump was "racist."
In a July campaign ad, a Democrat was shown walking with law enforcement along a section of the border wall while criticizing Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for opposing a border measure supported by Democrats in the Senate.
Trump and Republicans' efforts to secure the border have been met with opposition from Allred for a long time.
In 2018, at an event, Allred stated to attendees, "My generation will tear down any racist wall built. There will be no wall in this country."
He has voted against numerous bills that would implement strict measures to address the crisis at the southern border, including the H.R. 2 Secure the Border Act, which was supported by House and Senate Republicans. This legislation is known to propose the most stringent crackdown on the southern border and illegal immigration.
He voted for a resolution to end the national emergency declaration and supported legislation limiting the president's power to restrict illegal immigration, among other contentious actions.
The bipartisan Sens. Chris Murphy, Kyrsten Sinema, and James Lankford negotiated the border bill, but Republicans have largely rejected it and were vocal critics of the negotiations during the process.
This year, after the release of the negotiated bill, Republicans immediately rejected it.
Some Republican senators have stated that the proposed measure would have exacerbated the current border crisis.
According to a Senate Republican, the bill would have failed regardless of Trump's opposition, and they believe he is content to take credit for its failure.
The border bill was rejected by two of the three negotiators, Sinema and Lankford, in the most recent procedural vote.
The bill has been criticized by another Republican for allowing the president to address border concerns without needing additional congressional approval, as the president currently has the authority to do so.
Vice President Harris, like Allred, has changed their stance on the border wall and used it in campaign ads to show their strength on the southern border.
Trump's campaign criticized Harris for her support of the border wall, with a spokesperson stating that her statements were "preposterous and false claims."
The Cook Political Report rated the Texas Senate race as "likely Republican," with Cruz having a significant advantage. Despite this, the Texas and Florida Senate races are the Democrats' best chance to make gains in the Senate.
So far, Cruz has spent less on the race than Allred, with millions more spent on past ad spending and future reservations ahead of the election.
