Social media is surprised by Harris' revelation that she owns a gun.
Previously, Kamala Harris has advocated for gun control measures including assault weapon bans and mandatory buybacks.
On Tuesday night, during the presidential debate, Vice President Harris shocked social media by stating that she and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, are gun owners.
In Philadelphia on Tuesday night, Trump tried to emphasize how Harris has shifted away from her far-left positions since becoming the presidential candidate.
"Trump stated that she had a plan to defund the police, confiscate everyone's gun, and allow fracking in Pennsylvania or any other location. However, her plan has changed recently."
Harris countered with the revelation that she and Walz possess firearms.
"I've made it clear that I am against fracking, and then there's this rumor about taking everyone's guns away," Harris stated. "Both Tim Walz and I are gun owners. We're not taking anyone's guns away. Please stop spreading false information about this."
On Wednesday, Planet Chronicle Digital contacted the Harris campaign to request information about whether Harris still possesses a firearm, its type, location, and the date of her most recent shooting session. The Harris campaign did not promptly respond.
""Kamala Harris and I share the belief that gun ownership is a right, but we must work to ensure the safety of our children by preventing gun violence in schools," Walz wrote on X after the debate."
Wendy Patterson, with over 193,300 followers on X, criticized Kamala Harris' recent gun ownership revelation, stating that she has shared past clips of Harris supporting a mandatory gun buyback program on the campaign trail in 2019. Patterson also pointed out that Harris' claim of not taking guns away from anyone is a lie, and that her stance on fracking is also false.
Arynne Wexler, with over 28,400 followers, questioned when Kamala Harris became a gun owner and if she had ever discussed it.
During her 2019 presidential campaign, Senator Harris advocated for an assault weapons ban and universal background checks, emphasizing the need for stronger gun control measures.
"As a former San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general, Harris stated in August 2019, according to CNN, that she owns a gun for personal safety, like many people do. She was a career prosecutor."
During a college student audience on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" four years ago, a student questioned Harris about her stance on mandatory buybacks of assault weapons and how it contradicts the Second Amendment.
"Assault weapons are weapons of war with no place on the streets of a civil society," Harris said. "I've seen them kill babies and police officers."
"If Congress fails to address the issue of assault rifles, I will take executive action and implement a ban on their importation. However, we must also address the 2 million assault weapons already in circulation, and a buyback program may be necessary."
At the time, a Harris campaign aide informed CNN that she owned a handgun which she kept securely, as a responsible gun owner.
