Sen. Mark Kelly addresses inquiry about serving in a potential Harris Cabinet.
Gov. Tim Walz was chosen as Vice President by Kamala Harris instead of Mark Kelly.
Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., addressed whether he is interested in a cabinet-level position in a potential Kamala Harris administration.
On Tuesday, after speaking at the Veterans and Military Families Council meeting during the Democratic National Convention, Kelly participated in an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital about the presidential race.
Would you be interested in serving in Vice President Kamala Harris' cabinet if she wins the presidential election in November, specifically in secretary positions in the Departments of Defense (DOD) or Homeland Security (DHS)?
"My objective is to do everything possible in the next 77 days to ensure the success of Tim Walz and Kamala Harris on November 5th. I am not indicating whether I would like to join their administration," he stated.
Kelly's response was consistent with his earlier statements this month during his vetting process as a potential running mate for Harris. He frequently emphasized to reporters that his focus was on ensuring a Democratic victory in November, rather than himself.
The Navy veteran senator and the senator from a border state with concerns about illegal immigration are both potential contenders for the role of secretary of defense and DHS secretary, respectively.
Respect for veterans and their families is a sticking point for the Arizona Democrat in the 2024 election. Trump's disregard for the service members who have put their lives on the line and his dismissive attitude towards them as 'suckers and losers' raises questions about his sincerity in caring for military families.
Trump has denied the report that he referred to deceased soldiers as "suckers" and "losers."
He denied doing it and wrote on Truth Social that only a sick person with a grudge would make such a statement.
Despite his denial, opponents, including Kelly and President Biden, continue to criticize him.
Kelly stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that there is a need for someone who is concerned about the well-being of veterans and active-duty service members.
The senator stated that a President Harris would prioritize modernizing the military to ensure service members can succeed in any conflict, whether it takes place in the Western Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, or elsewhere.
The enthusiasm at the DNC, where Harris is being celebrated as the new Democratic nominee for president after Biden suspended his campaign, is not limited to Chicago, according to Kelly.
The Democrat remarked that he had never witnessed such energy at a rally as the one held by Harris in Arizona, despite the state often being perceived as a red state.
In October, it will be unlike anything we've experienced before, he predicted.
