On Sunday's attempted murder of the former president, a group of bipartisan U.S. lawmakers on a task force investigating the assassination attempt against former President Trump have requested a briefing from the U.S. Secret Service.
On Sunday, a man with an AK-47 was targeted by Secret Service agents after raising his rifle from a bush between 300 and 500 yards away from Trump, who was playing golf at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The man escaped and was later captured. The suspect has been identified as Ryan Routh.
After the attempted assassination, Mike Kelly, R-Pa., and Jason Crow, D-Colo., released a joint statement as task force chair and ranking member, respectively.
"The Task Force is tracking the attempted assassination of former President Trump in West Palm Beach this afternoon. We have requested a briefing from the U.S. Secret Service on the incident and how security responded."
The task force comprising of two lawmakers was formed on Aug. 4 by House Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
A gunman fired at Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, resulting in the establishment of a fact.
At the rally, a 20-year-old gunman named Thomas Crooks fired shots from a nearby building, interrupting Trump's speech about the border.
Trump was grazed in the ear by eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle fired by a crook who was approximately 150 yards away.
Another gunman came close to the former president, just 64 days after he nearly died.
"The former President was not harmed, but political violence remains a concern, and we condemn it in all forms. The Task Force will provide updates as more information becomes available."
