Republicans in the judiciary link the "open borders" policies of the Biden-Harris administration to a brutal murder allegedly committed by an undocumented immigrant.
For years, the consequences of those policies will be felt, according to the report.
The House Judiciary Committee Republicans are linking a violent crime, allegedly committed by an undocumented immigrant from Peru, to the administration of Biden and Harris, while border security remains a major concern before the 2024 election.
The interim staff report, obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, focuses on the case of Roberto Emilio Vasquez-Santamaria and highlights how the open-borders policies of the Biden-Harris Administration led to his release into the United States.
In September, a 40-year-old male was found dead with blunt force injuries to the head at a house in Eagle Pass, Texas, and Vasquez-Santamaria was charged with murder after being arrested in connection with the homicide.
In May 2023, Planet Chronicle Digital reported that an individual had illegally crossed into Eagle Pass and was released with a court appearance notice for removal proceedings. Sources emphasized to Fox that Border Patrol does not decide the release policy for illegal immigrants, and that agents are following the policies set by the Biden administration.
ICE confirmed that the man was enrolled in Alternatives to Detention on May 8 and instructed to report to their Miami office by July 3. However, he reported to the field office on May 15, resulting in his removal from the program. ICE explains that the program allows them to exercise increased supervision over a subset of those on their docket through various monitoring technologies, which helps increase court-appearance rates.
ICE officers make enforcement decisions on a case-by-case basis for noncitizens in the United States without lawful status, focusing on the greatest threats to homeland security in a professional and responsible manner, informed by their experience as law enforcement officers, a spokesperson stated.
The Peruvian national's A file has been obtained by Republicans on the committee, led by Chairman Jim Jordan, who have been seeking alien files of several alleged criminal illegal immigrants and have so far received 30.
Due to an alleged lack of detention space, the file confirmed that Vasquez-Santamaria had been released and enrolled in ATD. He was instructed to check in on July 3, 2023.
"The Judiciary Committee report states that Vasquez-Santamaria was given a Notice to Appear in immigration court, with his initial appearance scheduled for June 4, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. Despite being released on order, Vasquez-Santamaria violated the conditions of his release by committing crimes, associating with known gang members, and criminal associates."
The report does not mention whether he had ever checked in with ICE, met the conditions, or applied for any immigration benefits.
The report states that the immigration policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have resulted in negative consequences for American citizens. The repercussions of these policies will persist for years to come, with criminals in American communities endangering families and jeopardizing public safety nationwide.
The Biden-Harris Administration's decision to allow Vasquez-Santamaria to enter the country has left the victim's family forever changed. Unfortunately, they are not the only ones affected by this tragedy.
The ongoing battle between Republicans and Democrats over the crisis at the southern border has led to the Biden administration accusing Republicans of failing to support a bipartisan Senate deal aimed at providing additional funding and limiting entries.
Officials have stated that they require changes and extra resources to repair a faulty system. At the same time, they have emphasized a significant decrease in encounters involving more than 50% at the border since President Biden signed an order restricting asylum in June.
The Judiciary Committee report recommends that the administration and Senate Democrats pass a comprehensive border bill, which was previously approved by House Republicans, to address the ongoing border crisis. However, Republicans argue that the drop in apprehensions is insufficient and comes after a long history of "open border" policies by the administration.
The Committee and Subcommittee will continue to conduct vigorous oversight to inform legislative reforms addressing President Biden and Vice President Harris's dangerous immigration policies, according to the report.
