Rep. Maxine Waters evades inquiry on contentious abortion technique.
Last year, Waters opposed a bill aimed at safeguarding infants who survive aborted attempts.
At the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., evaded a query from Planet Chronicle Digital regarding her stance on restrictions for late-term abortions, with abortion being a crucial issue for the party.
Did Congresswoman Waters endorse Vice President Harris on day one of the DNC? Planet Chronicle Digital asked, to which Waters turned away and ignored the question regarding restrictions for late-term abortions.
The Democratic Party's 2024 re-election bid has made abortion a central issue, with Harris and Walz leading the ticket and speakers calling for expanded federal access. Late-term abortions, which usually take place in the third trimester, have been a contentious issue for Democratic lawmakers.
The free mobile clinic of Planned Parenthood, positioned near the United Center in Chicago, where the DNC is being held, emphasized the Democrats' message of broad access to abortion.
The clinic provided free vasectomies and medicinal abortions, and the event was concluded with a taco truck and a 20-foot inflatable IUD. The van was available for the first two days of the convention and was fully booked as of Tuesday.
During her 17-term political career, Waters has consistently advocated for federal funding for Planned Parenthood and opposed Republican-sponsored legislation aimed at defunding the organization or imposing constraints on abortion services.
In 2019, Waters opposed the Republican bill H. R. 26, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires healthcare providers to give the same level of care to any child born alive after an abortion attempt as they would to any other newborn at the same gestational age and mandates immediate hospital admission for such cases.
In 2022, when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, returning abortion policymaking to the states, Congresswoman Waters, who has been in office since 1991, was among the Democrats criticizing the decision.
The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, a landmark decision that has granted women, non-binary, and transgender individuals the right to control their bodies for decades. This decision has sparked outrage and sadness in our country, as it threatens the fundamental human right to make choices about one's own body.
On Monday night, Waters addressed the DNC delegates and passionately endorsed Harris, who will give a speech on the final night of the convention to become the next president.
"Kamala Harris is our party's nominee," Waters stated. "Indeed, I am confident that there is no better leader to guide us into the future."
In November, after Americans of all kinds have elected her as their president, we can all ask ourselves, "Is this America?" and proudly declare, "You're damn right it is."
