Pennsylvanians express varying opinions on Harris' stance on crucial matters: 'Superior to the opposition'

In preparation for her upcoming debate with former President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris visited swing-state Pennsylvania and Planet Chronicle Digital sought the opinions of Pittsburgh residents on her stance on crucial matters.

Recently, Harris has faced criticism for appearing to waver on certain issues, such as taxation, particularly regarding gratuities, and for promising to secure the southern border, similar to Trump's campaign promise.

Planet Chronicle reported that Harris' campaign confirmed her stance on several immigration-related policies, including decriminalizing illegal border crossings and shutting down detention centers.

Richard Walker of Pittsburgh stated that he believes Harris supports fracking in areas like Pennsylvania, similar to states like New York that have complete bans.

Walker stated that he has not heard her stance on nationalizing health care but believes it should be more affordable than it currently is.

Walker proposed that she would be the best candidate to reduce the prices of groceries and other commodities, but admitted that prices had already risen before she and President Biden assumed office.

Walker stated that he agrees with Walker's assessment of the border crisis, believing that Harris is attempting to address the issue but that it has been a persistent problem.

Planet Chronicle Digital reported that he stated he is unsure if Harris can win her home state, classifying it as a "toss-up," but believes she has a strong chance of winning the upcoming debate.

"I hope so," he said.

Tyrone Murray, dressed in a classic green and white Randall Cunningham jersey, joked about not fitting the typical Pittsburgh image on Penn Avenue.

He stated that he is from the Steel City and believes Harris will win statewide in November.

"He said that women are going to take over and that it's the difference in her winning because of women's votes."

Walker and he seemed to concur that the border has long been a crisis, and Harris is making an effort.

Harris stated that the cost of consumer goods cannot increase any further.

"Since the virus arrived, everything has been increasing. Regardless of who was in office, it had no impact."

He urged Harris to support an expansion of fracking, emphasizing the economic and regional significance of American natural gas.

Ron, who declined to give his last name, said he believes Harris supports a secure southern border and is more in favor of fracking than not, but supports restrictions and regulations on it. He also said Harris has trouble with public speaking, but offered her a good shot at winning the debate and the election. "I think she’s better than the alternative," he said.

Vijay Kumar, a fellow Pittsburgher, believes that Harris leans more towards renewables than fracking or drilling for fossil fuels. He also believes that while there is always room for improvement in securing the border, Harris has tried to "ask people to follow the rules" when it comes to immigrating to the U.S. Kumar thinks Harris is doing a good job, but there is definitely something else that could be done.

Anita stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that she believes Harris supports a secure border and believes she will win both the debate and Penn's commonwealth in November.

Nancy, who was walking with Lavonte nearby, added, "I think she's going to do great at the debate."

Lavonte accused Congress of hindering a recent compromise border bill between Sens. James Lankford and Kyrsten Sinema when asked about Harris' stance on the border.

"Congress needs to act and pass a bill to address the issue," he said. "You see what Trump did."

Trump has been blamed for lobbying against the legislation.

Charlie Cane, a local resident, stated that he thinks Harris will triumph in the upcoming debate, characterizing it as a "prosecutor versus a criminal."

He stated that she is the ideal candidate to reduce food and housing inflation, but acknowledged that she could improve on border security.
