Since the 2020 presidential election, over 1.1 million names have been removed from Texas' voting rolls due to ineligibility, as announced by Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday.

In 2021, Governor Abbott signed into law SB 1, which mandated the secretary of state to collaborate with the Department of Public Safety to compare the citizenship status of individuals in that agency's database with the voter rolls on a monthly basis.

""To safeguard our democracy, I have enacted the toughest election laws in the country," stated Abbott."

"Over one million ineligible individuals have been removed from our voter rolls in the past three years due to these reforms, which included noncitizens, deceased voters, and those who relocated to another state."

Cases of ineligible voters participating in elections in Texas have been referred to Attorney General Ken Praxton for prosecution by the government.

Abbott stated that the Secretary of State and county voter registrars have a continuous legal obligation to examine the voter list, eliminate ineligible voters, and report any suspected illegal voting to the Attorney General's Office and local authorities for examination and prosecution.

We will continue to actively safeguard Texans' sacred right to vote while also aggressively protecting our elections from illegal voting.

The governor's office released a chart detailing the reasons for removal from the voting rolls and provided estimates for each category.

Over 463,000 Texas residents were disqualified in the audit due to their failure to properly confirm their residential address, which placed them on the suspense list.

Over 457,000 deceased individuals were still listed on the voting rolls as the second most significant category.

Approximately 6,500 noncitizens were removed from the rolls, with nearly 2,000 of them accused of voting in previous elections.
