Oprah Winfrey's past praise of Trump as a 'folk hero' contradicts her DNC comments.
Trump press secretary: Many liberal celebrities who attack President Trump now used to love him.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1988, the talk show host expressed surprise at Americans' interest in Donald Trump and referred to him as a "folk hero" due to his popularity.
"What is the fascination with celebrities at concerts in New York, as evidenced by the loud applause and standing ovations they receive when they enter the venue?"
Trump replied, "Maybe I should be a rockstar, I'm not sure."
"They thought you were going to moonwalk," Oprah quipped.
Oprah also referred to Trump as a "folk hero" after considering his popularity with him.
A day after Winfrey made a surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention and criticized Trump, an unearthed interview was discovered.
"Winfrey stated at the United Center in Chicago that she is aware of the old techniques used to divert attention from important issues, but she believes that we have moved beyond such tactics as tweets, lies, and foolishness. These times are complex, and therefore, require mature discussions. Winfrey welcomes these conversations because civilized debate is essential to democracy and represents the best of America."
Winfrey criticized remarks made by Trump in which he stated that his supporters would not need to vote again if they elected him because he would solve all their problems.
"This candidate claims that if we vote just once, we won't have to do it again. However, as a registered Independent who takes pride in voting, I believe that voting is a fundamental right of being an American and should be done repeatedly."
After her speech, the Trump campaign shared a letter Winfrey wrote to Trump in 2000, expressing her belief that he would be a great president and they would be a successful political team.
"In a 2023 interview, Winfrey stated, "I might have thought it 23 years ago.""
Winfrey did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment before publication.
""Many liberal celebrities who now attack President Trump used to love him, but they only pretend to hate him now because he's a Republican and they are phonies like Kamala Harris," Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Planet Chronicle Digital."
