Offering free abortions outside DNC could put Planned Parenthood at risk of IRS scrutiny.
The DNC's message is perceived as dark and goofy by pro-life group.
This week, a pro-life group submitted an IRS complaint against Planned Parenthood, alleging that its use of a mobile abortion van providing free services near the Democratic National Convention violated its nonprofit status.
On Wednesday, 40 Days for Life exclusively shared with Planet Chronicle Digital filings accusing Planned Parenthood Great Rivers and Planned Parenthood Great Rivers – IL of violating their tax-exempt status.
""Planned Parenthood's public display of recklessness in targeting political parties and candidates with free abortions and other in-kind gifts is strictly prohibited by the IRS, a rule that every nonprofit understands," CEO Shawn Carney told Planet Chronicle Digital."
"The DNC is emphasizing the importance of abortion as a priority, not just in theory or policy, but in action, by including it in their convention and boasting about it, according to Carney. This is a unique approach among political parties and candidates."
Planned Parenthood openly advertises and provides free services from not-for-profit entities to participants of and in direct relation to a nationwide political rally for one party and certain political candidates, according to the filing.
The nonprofit status of the organization was violated by the addition of the statement "These actions clearly are and/or suggest direct or implicit endorsements of a certain party, platform and candidates."
Planned Parenthood Great Rivers of St. Louis announced on an X post that a bus was heading to the DNC in Chicago on Aug. 19-20 to offer free services. However, as of Tuesday, a Planned Parenthood worker informed Planet Chronicle Digital that the bus was only providing medicinal abortions and was fully booked.
"We're heading to Chicago! Our mobile health clinic will be in the West Loop with @ChiAbortionFund & @TheWienerCircle on Aug 19-20, offering FREE vasectomies, medication abortion, and emergency contraception (EC) without an appointment."
Planned Parenthood Great Rivers' chief medical officer, Dr. Colleen McNicholas, stated that accessibility is a fundamental value at their organization and their mobile health clinic enables them to provide care to more individuals who require it.
"We are proud to showcase the potential of reproductive health care when policies are supportive, as people from various regions journey to Illinois this week," McNicholas stated.
In this election year, the Democrats have emphasized abortion as a key issue in their platform, stating that a Trump presidency could result in a nationwide, federal prohibition on abortions.
Trump has stated that the decision to restrict abortions will be left to the states, in accordance with the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
On the first day of the DNC, several speakers discussed abortion as a key issue in the Democratic Party's 2024 platform.
Planet Chronicle Digital has reached out to Planned Parenthood for comment.
