Major shift to the left has caused Dems to abandon ordinary Americans, according to top conservative think tank.
The most significant changes on abortion and immigration have been made by Pence's group, according to their statement.
Mike Pence's conservative think tank claims a significant shift to the left over the past few decades.
A memo from Advancing American Freedom (AAF) released ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next week states that the Democratic Party has increasingly abandoned ordinary Americans for its most radical fringe over the past 50 years.
"Despite attacking Republicans for holding similar beliefs, Democrats have historically held these positions in their party platforms. With the next convention scheduled for August 2024, there is still an opportunity for Democrats to reestablish themselves as a moderate party."
"Until 1983, Mike Pence was a Democrat, just like President Ronald Reagan was until 1962," the group pointed out.
John Shelton, the policy director of AAF, stated that the Democratic Party has "definitely" shifted more over the years than the Republican Party has, as evidenced by a memo released by the group last month examining changes in the Republican National Convention platform.
In an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, he stated that their platform represented a complete rejection of the party's former identity.
The group showcases the evolution of the Democratic Party's stance on abortion by highlighting past DNC platforms that acknowledged the religious and ethical concerns and aimed to make the procedure rare.
The two most significant issues that the party has shifted on the most, according to Shelton, are abortion and illegal immigration.
The DNC's use of strong language against illegal immigration in 1996 was criticized in a memo by AAF, which stated that it "cannot be tolerated" and "must be stopped."
In 1992, our borders were virtually non-existent. The border was poorly patrolled, and the few patrols that existed were inadequately equipped. Drugs flowed freely, and illegal immigration was rampant. Criminal immigrants, who had been deported after committing crimes in America, returned the very next day to commit more crimes.
The Democratic Party has abandoned a broad, bipartisan agreement on crucial issues, according to AAF. The group also criticized media coverage that portrayed the Republican Party as "extremists," given the Democrats' shift.
