Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie expresses continued grief following his wife's passing: "Still mourning."
His late wife was honored by Massie, who revealed that the family is still awaiting the autopsy results.
On Thursday, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., paid tribute to his late wife Rhonda on social media, breaking his silence for the first time since her passing.
Despite being "still devastated" by the loss of his wife, Massie found comfort in the love and support of the four wonderful children she brought into the world and nurtured so perfectly.
Rhonda's loved ones, including over 1,000 friends and family, attended her services and/or sent flowers and other tributes to her memory. I want to thank them, as well as those of you who have prayed for us and honored Rhonda in other ways.
"Although we have cried deeply and shared happy memories of her, I have come to terms with the loss through the support of others who have gone through similar experiences. However, I will never fully recover from this loss."
On June 28, Massie declared that his wife of 35 years had passed away, although he did not reveal the cause of death. In a statement, he described her as "the smartest, kindest woman I ever knew, my beautiful and wise queen forever."
Since Rhonda Massie's passing, numerous conspiracy theories have been circulated online. The lawmaker initially reacted with "indignation" towards the rumors, but now he is amused because "Rhonda would have laughed."
"I can dismiss some of those theories without violating her privacy by disclosing: she did not take the COVID shots (we were both seropositive by the time they became available), our house is very secure, family was in the house the night she passed, and an autopsy has been conducted (we do not yet have results)," Massie wrote.
After examining hundreds of photos of us from high school, I can only conclude that the only plausible conspiracy is a stunning woman who was an intellectual prodigy conspired to transform an unpopular teenager into a powerful congressman, who could be controlled solely by her, by taking him as her boyfriend at the age of 16 and dedicating herself to shaping him into a better version of himself for decades.
"I am returning to work for the people of Kentucky's Fourth Congressional District and I apologize for the missed votes during this challenging time. Although Rhonda is no longer with me, I will make an effort to embody the same grace, patience, and wisdom she displayed while serving you selflessly."
The 4th Congressional District of Kentucky, which includes over a dozen counties near Louisville and Lexington, is represented by Massie.
Several colleagues and supporters replied with condolences to his loving tribute.
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., wrote, "I teared up while reading this. It's truly something. We're here to support you when you come back. Prayers for your wonderful family,"
"We love you Thomas," said Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.
"Oklahoma state Rep. Dusty Deevers wrote, "Praying for you and your family, Rep. Massie. 'The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace' (Numbers 6:24-26).""
