Harris reaffirms commitment to left-wing benefits for illegal immigrants: 'Intelligent solutions'
The bipartisan border bill received support from Vice President Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris is strengthening her stance on granting citizenship to illegal immigrants through a new campaign policy, while also taking a tougher stance on border security.
Her campaign website states that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz advocate for tough, smart solutions to secure the border, keep communities safe, and reform our broken immigration system.
Harris has faced criticism regarding her policy stances, particularly with respect to her 2020 presidential campaign and her alignment with the Biden administration.
On day one, she advocated for decriminalizing illegal border crossings, shutting down immigration detention centers, and starting Immigration and Customs Enforcement from scratch.
The Biden administration introduced a comprehensive immigration reform bill in 2021, which aimed to provide a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants currently residing in the US. Despite its failure to progress in the Senate, the administration has consistently expressed its support for the bill.
The administration has shifted its focus to a bipartisan Senate bill that does not provide an amnesty pathway but restricts some entries into the U.S. and increases border funding, following a historic three-year crisis at the border.
Harris' campaign page highlights her efforts as California's attorney general to combat international drug gangs, human traffickers, and cartels that smuggled guns, drugs, and people across the U.S.-Mexico border, and her support for the border security bill.
She, as Vice President, backed the bipartisan border security bill, the most robust reform in years. The bill aimed to enhance detection technology to seize fentanyl and other drugs and increase the number of border security agents to safeguard our border, she stated.
After President Biden signed an executive order restricting the ability of new migrants to claim asylum at the border, there has been a recent decrease in border crossings, which she also highlighted.
She will sign the bipartisan border security bill into law as President, while still advocating for a pathway to citizenship for those in the country illegally.
She understands that our immigration system requires comprehensive reform, including strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship.
Harris has recently expressed his support for an amnesty for a large number of undocumented individuals currently residing in the United States.
In June, she stated that Congress must act and allocate the necessary resources to secure the border and establish a significant pathway to citizenship.
During her speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last month, she advocated for an "earned pathway to citizenship."
Harris' campaign has stated that her positions on certain issues have changed, as a Harris campaign adviser informed Planet Chronicle that her views have been influenced by her three years of experience as part of the Biden-Harris administration.
The campaign emphasized that the candidate believes unauthorized border crossings are illegal, supports prioritizing detention and removal of some illegal immigrants, and reiterated her support for increased funding at the border through the bipartisan Senate bill.
