Harris evading criticism as faceless proxies betray key positions: 'Political maneuvering'
One strategist questioned the authenticity of Harris's sudden change in stance on several significant issues.
A Republican strategist claims that Vice President Kamala Harris is "playing politics" by allowing her subordinates to take the lead on her making major policy shifts, rather than pushing them herself.
Officials close to Harris have revealed her change of stance on certain issues she previously backed during her 2019 presidential campaign, including fracking and "Medicare for All," although Harris herself has not yet publicly commented on these shifts.
A political strategist told Planet Chronicle Digital that "candidates and elected officials, not anonymous on-background campaign staffers, take public policy positions."
Dallas Woodhouse, American Majority-North Carolina State Director, stated on Fox that the American public should assume that every position taken by Harris during her presidential campaign and the positions taken by the Biden-Harris administration are her own until she clarifies otherwise.
He stated that the American public would not accept a candidate changing their previously stated positions without a thorough examination and explanation.
Fracking
If elected, Harris promised to prohibit fracking, a contentious issue among a significant voting group in crucial swing states, including Pennsylvania.
In 2020, Harris stated that she has no doubt about supporting a ban on fracking, as she has a background of working on this issue.
Since launching her 2024 campaign, her past comments on the issue have been used by Republicans, including former President Trump, to attack her in campaign ads.
Officials from the Democratic nominee's campaign have stated that Harris will not prohibit fracking if she becomes president.
"Medicare for All"
During her 2019 presidential campaign, Harris put forth her plan for "Medicare for All," with the goal of ending attacks on Obamacare and making healthcare a right, not a privilege only for the privileged.
"The goal is to ensure that everyone has access to medical care without the need for insurance approval, paperwork, and the delays that may come with it. Let's eliminate this process," Harris wrote in 2019.
In 2019, Sen. Kamala Harris, then a senator, cosponsored Sen. Bernie Sanders' Medicare for All Act.
A campaign official informed Peter Doocy of Planet Chronicle that Harris will not prioritize the topic of "Medicare-for-all" during this election cycle, despite her previous support.
According to Colin Reed, a Republican strategist, former campaign manager, and co-founder of South and Hill Strategies, it seems challenging to believe Harris' shift.
"Reed stated on Fox that Vice President Harris was a highly accomplished individual with extensive experience on the national stage when she ran for the White House five years ago. However, the notion that she could drastically alter her stance on numerous significant issues in just five years strains credulity."
Reed emphasized his stance on "Medicare For All," stating that it would amount to $44 trillion dollars, which is more than our total national debt of $35 trillion dollars.
Reed stated that either she was incorrect previously or is engaging in politics currently, and voters will eventually determine this when she responds to questions in an unstructured manner.
Amid Republicans attacking her 2024 presidential campaign by highlighting her past stances on issues such as fracking, a suggested position shift has emerged.
The Harris campaign was asked by Planet Chronicle Digital if she would be personally announcing her new stance on key issues.
