Harris defends policy changes in first interview since becoming vice president.
Since Biden dropped out of the race, Harris has stated that her values have remained the same.
In a preview clip of her first interview with the media since becoming the Democratic vice president, Kamala Harris defended her flip-flops on key policies such as energy.
"What are some changes that you've made, and how should voters evaluate them? CNN host Dana Bash posed this question to Harris in a preview clip released late Thursday afternoon. Specifically, she asked, "Is it because you have more experience now and have learned more about the information? Is it because you were running for president in a Democratic primary? And should voters feel comfortable and confident that what you're saying now will be your policy moving forward?""
Throughout her political career, Harris maintained that her values have remained constant.
My policy perspective and decisions are shaped by my unwavering values, which have not changed. Regarding the Green New Deal, I have consistently believed that the climate crisis is a pressing issue that requires urgent action. To address this, we have applied metrics that prioritize meeting deadlines, as demonstrated by the Inflation Reduction Act.
Since becoming the Democratic Party's nominee after President Biden dropped out of the race last month, Harris has been accused by voters, political pundits, and the Trump campaign of flip-flopping on key policies, including fracking. For instance, Harris' campaign announced last month that the vice president did not support a ban on the oil extraction technique that is popular in battleground states like Pennsylvania.
Despite her remarks as a primary candidate in a 2019 CNN town hall event, where Harris stated that there is "no question I’m in favor of banning fracking," that position is the opposite of her current stance.
During her failed primary campaign in the 2020 cycle, Harris publicly supported "Medicare for All" and semiautomatic rifle buyback programs. However, she has since distanced herself from these programs.
Harris stated in her comments to CNN on Thursday that we have established objectives for the United States of America and the world to achieve certain standards for greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
"As an example, my value around securing our border has not changed. I spent two terms as the Attorney General of California prosecuting transnational criminal organizations for violations of American laws regarding the passage of guns, drugs, and human beings across our border, and my values have not changed," she said.
The interview with Harris on her policies on the economy, inflation, the environment, and immigration will be released by the network at 9 p.m. Thursday evening, as announced by Bash during her afternoon show.
The interview with Kamala Harris took place at Kim's Cafe, a Black-owned restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. She was accompanied by her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
