In a new campaign ad, former Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican Senate candidate in Michigan, made his stance on a key voter concern for November.
In a new ad, Rogers stated that a decision about pregnancy is one of the most challenging and personal choices a woman must make, while sitting beside his wife, Kristi Rogers, who held his hand.
He acknowledged the decision of Michigan voters in the 2022 election, which saw the enactment of Proposal 3, an amendment that safeguards the "fundamental right to reproductive freedom" in law.
The amendment also protected rights to contraception and treatments for infertility.
He vowed in a 15-second digital ad that he would not make any changes to the Senate.
According to a source, the ad aims to counter the alleged misinformation spread by Rep. Elissa Slotkin's campaign regarding Rogers' position.
The source added that they will continue to address this issue with campaign expenditures.
On the same day that Slotkin released two abortion-related ads against Rogers, a video was also released as part of a multi-million dollar advertising campaign running on broadcast, cable, and digital platforms.
In 1994, Rogers publicly supported restrictions on abortion, stating in the Lansing State Journal that he believed it was an intentional taking of life and would further support legislation limiting abortions based on the sex of the baby.
She also criticized the Republican for allegedly supporting a "human life amendment" in a questionnaire from two decades ago, which stated that babies are considered a life from the moment of conception.

Rogers has repeatedly stated that his actions in the Senate do not define him, and he has consistently adhered to the Michigan abortion law since launching his Senate campaign. He also supports former President Trump's stance that abortion should be left to the states.
In July, a Planet Chronicle Poll revealed that abortion was the third most important issue for Michigan voters, with 16% citing it as such. The top issue for the most voters was the economy, with 35% saying so, and immigration came in second at 17%.
A recent CNN poll indicates that Slotkin is leading Rogers 47% to 41%, while a previous AARP-commissioned poll showed Rogers tied with Slotkin among voters over 50 years old, with each receiving 46%. However, among all voters, Slotkin has a slight edge over Rogers, 47% to 44%.
Despite the seat's history of going Democrat, the Cook Political Report rated the Michigan Senate race a "toss up."
