Florida's 10th District Dem primary battle ends with Maxwell Frost as the winner.
The seat is predicted to remain in the hands of Democrats.
On Tuesday, Florida's 10th Congressional District's Democrat primary was won by Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla.
Willie Montague and Tuan Lee are now facing off in the Republican primary, with Frost as the winner.
In his first term in Congress, Frost was considered the favorite in the race. However, his controversial positions, particularly his shift to full-throated support for military aid to Israel, opened the door to primary challengers.
The young Democrat, who served as the national advance manager for Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign, became a headline in 2022 when he was elected to Congress, revealing that his credit score was too low to qualify for an apartment in Washington, D.C.
During a candidate forum last month, Frost advocated for streamlining the asylum application process at the U.S. southern border.
"According to a report in the Orlando Sentinel, he stated that we must comprehend that we do not have open borders. Instead, we have a legal system of asylum, which grants individuals the right to claim asylum. To expedite this process, we need to enact legislation to increase the number of asylum attorneys, judges, and personnel."
At the same forum, one of Frost's opponents, White, argued for securing the border and adhering to current immigration laws.
"White stated that the first step is to adhere to existing laws to safeguard the border. Additionally, he emphasized that the country cannot maintain an open-door policy as it is not financially feasible, and resources should be allocated to assist those within the United States."
Darius, who previously worked in business, obtained a bachelor's degree in political science from Broward College. He centered his campaign on improving the affordability of life for low- and mid-income earners, pledging to decrease rent and make healthcare more accessible.
According to election experts like the Cook Political Report, Decision Desk HQ, and Sabato's Crystal Ball, the district is considered safe for Democrats.
