Elementary school kids in Chicago are taught about gender identity and puberty blockers in the school's sex education curriculum.
While 31% of elementary students in the Chicago public school system are proficient in reading, only 19% are proficient in math.
The sexual education curriculum in Chicago Public Schools starts in kindergarten, with lessons on human anatomy, followed by defining "gender identity" in first grade, and an introduction to puberty blockers in fifth grade.
The "Personal Health and Safety Education & Sexual Health Education Scope and Sequence" of the Chicago public school system was discovered by the parental rights nonprofit Parents Defending Education. The group found that in a district where elementary students are struggling with academic proficiency, faculty and administrators found a link between the "health and safety" programming and the students' learning time.
"Rhyen Staley, the Parents Defending Education researcher, stated that the slow inching of kids towards hardcore queer theory is evident in the sexual education curriculum. By the time they reach fifth grade, students are taught about transgenderism and puberty blockers."
The Chicago public school system has a reading proficiency rate of 31% among elementary students, which is two percentage points below the national average for fourth graders in 2022. Can the officials at CPS prioritize their fundamental responsibilities and refrain from using their taxpayer-funded positions to advance a radical agenda on young children aged 4 years old? According to Michele Exner, a senior adviser for Parents Defending Education, this is a concern that was raised on Planet Chronicle Digital.
"It shouldn't be difficult for parents to know that their children are learning academics in school, not wasting their class time with irrelevant and divisive content."
In first grade, Chicago Public School students learn to "define gender, gender identity, and gender role stereotypes" and can "identify at least two things they've been taught about gender role stereotypes and how those things may limit people of all genders."
In second grade, students learn about gender stereotypes and how to advocate for change. By fourth grade, the district curriculum uses a "Gender Snowperson" to help students explore gender identity, sexual orientation, sex assigned at birth, and gender expression.
Fifth-grade instructors employ a "Gender Unicorn" to educate their students on "sexual orientation," as well as "gender role stereotypes and gender expression." After the lesson, fifth graders should be able to define terms such as "cisgender," "non-binary," and "transgender." The fifth-grade curriculum also includes a lesson on "changes during puberty," which includes information on "puberty blocker medications that transgender young people may use."
According to Chalkboard News, Chicago Public Schools has reportedly started inviting unlicensed "health educators" to teach the district's sexual education curriculum due to a lack of teacher comfort with instructing students on the topic.
The Daily Caller filed a federal Freedom of Information Act request for Chicago Public Schools' sexual education materials, but the district repeatedly denied the request.
The Chicago Public Schools system did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
