During a hearing on hate speech, an anti-Israel agitator disrupted Cruz and shouted, "F---ing Jews."
Democrats are accused by Sen. Ted Cruz of not taking antisemitism seriously and only holding a generic hearing on hate.
During a congressional hearing on "hate" on Tuesday, an anti-Israel protester disrupted Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, by shouting "F---ing Jews."
In the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled "A Threat to Justice Everywhere: Stemming the Tide of Hate Crimes in America," Cruz spoke about the increase of antisemitism on college campuses following the events of Oct. 7.
"Antisemitism is a form of evil that has been manifested in violence, mass murder, and genocide throughout history," Cruz stated. "The October 7th attacks, in which terrorists murdered over 1,200 Israelis and took 251 hostages, were one of the darkest days in human history. Women and girls were raped, and it was the single largest mass murder of Jews in a day since the Holocaust. Since then, we have seen antisemitism increase, particularly on college campuses."
The Biden-Harris administration was criticized by Cruz after examples of antisemitic and pro-Hamas messages were directed at Jewish students.
"The Biden-Harris administration has been absent throughout the issue of antisemitism on college campuses. The FBI, prosecutors, and federal funding would have been present if the Klan were terrorizing African American students. However, when it comes to antisemitism, the Democrats have a problem, especially in blue states with blue governors, as the Democrat Party is afraid of the pro-Hamas wing of their party."
"In Texas and Florida, we do not permit this. When violent protests endangered Jewish students at the University of Texas, police officers arrived and arrested them. That's what happens when you uphold the law. Every Republican committee member requested a hearing on antisemitism in February. However, we are not given a hearing on antisemitism. Instead, we receive a hearing on hate."
A man in the audience interrupted Cruz while he was about to explain his view on the Biden administration's responsibility for the issue. The man shouted vulgarities, including "F---ing Jews," according to social media videos. After being disruptive, the anti-Israel agitator was removed from the room.
"This is the kind of anger and hate that is being encouraged. The hate is now manifesting right here," Cruz stated, pointing to the protester.
He added, "So now we have a demonstration of antisemitism. We have a demonstration of the hate."
Cruz questioned Mark Goldfeder, director of the National Jewish Advocacy Center, about the Biden administration's actions regarding colleges that have allowed hate and if they have indicted anyone for funding violent protests or the people paying for matching tents.
Goldfeder responded, "They have not indicted anyone."
"Has any university faced funding cuts due to allowing violent intimidation?" Cruz inquired.
"Not a single university," Goldfeder said.
In 2023, the number of antisemitic incidents in the United States more than doubled compared to 2022, as illustrated by the Anti-Defamation League.
Cruz stated that college campuses have become breeding grounds for hatred towards Jews, giving examples of a Cornell University student who made threats after October 7th, including statements such as "if I see a male Jew, I will stab you and slit your throat. If I see another female Jew, I will drag you away and rape you and throw you off a cliff."
The Republican senator showed a flyer from a student organization at California State University, Long Beach, promoting a "Day of Resistance" on Oct. 7, which featured an image of a person parachuting with a fan attached, symbolizing and praising the Hamas terrorists who used gliders to attack a music festival and kill 260 innocent people and take many more hostages.
In April, Rabbi Elie Buechler cautioned Jewish students at Columbia University that the school could not assure their safety amidst rising antisemitism and chaos, and advised them to return home. This was after Columbia President Minouche Shafik was grilled about the issue before the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
At Columbia's campus, individuals yelled, "We're all Hamas! Long live Hamas!" Cruz said the rabbi had every reason to be concerned.
The senator presented more instances of antisemitism on college campuses in the U.S., including a Holocaust survivor's granddaughter who was told to "return to the gas chambers" and a Columbia University student who displayed a sign reading "al-Qassam's next targets" in front of a group of students waving American and Israeli flags in opposition.
Hamas' military arm, Al-Qassam, is a Georgia-based student who has been taught lies and hatred, and is comfortable advocating for the murder of her fellow students at Columbia, according to social media.
