Dean Phillips, a former opponent of Biden, states that he would consider an invitation to serve in either the Democrat or Republican administration.
President Biden's decline was known before Phillips launched his failed primary challenge, he says in an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital.
Rep. Dean Phillips, the lone Democrat who ran against President Biden in the 2024 Democratic primary, stated that he would be open to serving in either a Democratic or Republican administration. He expressed his desire to contribute to the country in any capacity possible.
On the sidelines of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Phillips, D-Minn., spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital.
In March, a three-term congressman named Phillips suspended his campaign against Biden in the Democratic primary.
"He stated that he did not want to run the cycle and spent two years trying to bring attention to something he saw clearly with his own eyes. He recalled his Republican friends criticizing Donald Trump privately while praising him publicly, and his Democratic colleagues doing the same about Joe Biden, who they knew was declining and would likely lose."
Phillips stated that he did not want to do it, but later told Planet Chronicle Digital that it was clear that our political culture rewards cowardice and silence.
""To make it happen, someone had to hand over power, like Joe Biden did, and the message was to be a Paul Revere, not a George Washington. In two weeks, I put together a campaign to run for president," he said."
And the rest may be history," he added, "I'm glad he did.
Phillips stated that he only aspires to assist the country in some way, shape or form when asked about his future aspirations to run for president again.
He stated that the purpose of his actions was not to run for president, but rather to demonstrate that it is never too late to take action when something is wrong. He added that he stood up and did something in response to his feelings.
"Whether it's in a Democratic or Republican administration, if there's an opportunity to serve my country, we should all take it," he said to Planet Chronicle Digital. "You never know."
However, Phillips told Planet Chronicle Digital that policy is critical.
He stated that Americans recall their emotions and desire to feel excited, safe, joyful, and optimistic, which often stems from policy.
"Phillips stated that we have a border crisis and he has witnessed it twice personally. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of being a welcoming country, as Ronald Reagan once said. Phillips also pointed out the need for our economy to work for everyone, as sixty percent of people live paycheck to paycheck. Regardless of political affiliation, he noted that many people have been failed by the system. Lastly, he highlighted the state of our healthcare system, stating that it is in a mess."
However, Phillips said politicians need to stop the infighting.
"If we continue to spend all our time fighting, we won't have time to improve our ideas," he stated. "This is my call to action for Congress and Americans. We won't solve problems by criticizing ourselves."
