David Weiss has brought federal tax charges against Hunter Biden, and he now plans to plead guilty.
On Thursday in federal court, Abbe Lowell, representing the first son, stated that Hunter Biden plans to change his plea and plead guilty.
The trial began Thursday with jury selection in Los Angeles.
Hunter Biden was charged with three felonies and six misdemeanors by Weiss for owing $1.4 million in unpaid taxes, which have since been settled. Weiss accused Hunter of engaging in a "four-year scheme" of not paying his federal income taxes and submitting false tax returns.
Biden initially pleaded not guilty.
Biden was accused by Weiss of evading federal taxes for four years, totaling at least $1.4 million, from January 2017 to October 15, 2020, by filing false returns for tax year 2018.
Biden withdrew millions from his company, Owasco, PC, outside of the payroll and tax withholding process it was designed to perform, according to Weiss.
Biden allegedly spent millions on an extravagant lifestyle instead of paying his taxes, and he stopped paying his outstanding taxes for tax year 2015 in 2018.
Biden allegedly failed to pay his taxes on time for the years 2016 to 2019, even though he had the funds to do so, and also failed to file his tax returns for 2017 and 2018.
Biden is facing charges in a trial for the second time this year, stemming from an investigation by Weiss.
In Delaware, Biden was convicted on all charges brought by Weiss, who accused him of lying about a firearm purchase, providing false information to a licensed dealer, and possessing a firearm while addicted to a controlled substance.
No date has been set for sentencing for the charges, and with all counts combined, the total maximum prison time could be up to 25 years. Each count carries a maximum fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release.
President Biden has vowed not to pardon his son.
