Biden pledges to maintain the presidency, unfazed by Democratic unease following debate fiasco.
After receiving criticism for his shaky debate performance, Biden confidently declared to the crowd, "I can handle this job."
Despite criticism from Democratic officials and pundits following his poor debate performance, President Biden pledged to secure victory in North Carolina and the White House at a rally on Friday.
After Biden's stumbling during the presidential debate on CNN, Democrats and liberal media figures were reportedly in "panic." However, the president dismissed his critics and directed his attention towards former President Trump during a rally in Raleigh, where he was met with an enthusiastic audience.
""I am not as young as I used to be, and my debating skills have declined, but I am confident in my ability to speak the truth," Biden said to the crowd."
The president claimed that Trump had set a new record for the most lies told in a single debate, but his attacks on Trump's record were more muted on stage Thursday night in Atlanta.
Trump was accused of lying about his management of the economy, the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare for veterans, and crime by Biden.
"Biden stated that violent crime has decreased by 50% during his time in office. He then pointed out that the only convicted felon present last night was Donald Trump. Biden reflected on Trump's 34 felony convictions, including sexual assault and a $400 million fine for business fraud."
"I thought to myself, Donald Trump isn't just a convicted felon. Donald Trump is a one-man crime wave," he added, as the crowd began eager chants of "lock him up," referring to Trump.
In response to his confrontation with Trump in Atlanta, Biden aimed to alleviate doubts about his ability to lead as president due to his age.
Trump was declared the winner of the debate not because of the strength of his answers but due to Biden's comparative weakness. Biden spoke haltingly and at times lost his train of thought as he traded jabs with Trump over various issues such as the economy, immigration, abortion, and the Jan. 6 2021 Capitol riot.
During his response to an economic question, Biden stated "Excuse me, while dealing with," before finishing with "we finally beat Medicare" as time expired.
Trump immediately pounced: "He defeated Medicaid and is now destroying Medicare."
After a rambling answer from Biden on immigration, Trump criticized his opponent's incoherent speech in another stand-out moment minutes later.
Trump stated, "I have no clue what he said, and I believe he's unsure as well."
In Democrat-friendly media, journalists reported on dozens of Democratic Party officials urging Biden to refuse his party's nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.
At his rally in Raleigh, Biden stated that he is capable of defeating Trump and gave no indication that he would do so.
"I am capable of performing this task, as the risks are too great," Biden stated. "Trump poses a real danger to our country."
Biden has approximately four months and a second debate, hosted by ABC News on September 10th, to persuade Americans to vote for him against Trump. Despite opposition from his critics, Biden confidently declared in Raleigh that he will secure both North Carolina and the presidency.
He stated, like many Americans know, that when you fall, you rise again.
