Amid fatal wreck, cultural clashes, a Haitian lawmaker says that refugees 'do not comprehend the laws.
Rep. Kyle Koehler defends Springfield's reputation as a 'great town'.
The influx of Haitian refugees in Springfield, Ohio, has resulted in cultural differences and challenges in driving practices as the town adapts to its new reality.
Ohio State Rep. Kyle Koehler stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that the sudden influx of over 20,000 people into a community of 60,000 people has caused issues between the residents and the newcomers.
Recently, Springfield, a town about 50 miles west of Columbus, has gained national attention, including being mentioned by former President Donald Trump in a debate response on Tuesday.
"During a response to a question about immigration, Trump stated, "The people who entered our country are consuming the pets of the residents, which is a disgrace.""
The "open border" policies of the Biden administration have attracted the attention of Ohio Republican senate candidate Bernie Moreno, who claims that these policies have led to an influx of illegal Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, who are utilizing social services and causing harm to the community.
Despite local officials and media outlets challenging Trump's claim in the debate, Springfield community members continue to face a new reality due to cultural differences between locals and the Haitian refugees who have recently arrived in the town, as stated by Koehler.
Koehler, a candidate for the state Senate, stated that there is a lack of understanding between the different groups, which has led to conflicts and problems due to the large number of people involved.
Another extreme example of that, Koehler claimed to have heard secondhand, supposedly occurred at a nearby Walmart, where people were reportedly seen stripping down and bathing themselves in the bathroom on a Saturday morning.

Road safety is another concern among the local population, as Koehler pointed out.
Koehler remarked that cultural differences contribute significantly to the poor driving in town.
Last October, a school bus carrying dozens of children collided with a minivan, resulting in over 20 kids being hurt and one, Aiden Clark, being killed.
Hermanio Joseph, a Haitian immigrant, was later identified as the driver of the minivan involved in the incident. He was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and vehicular homicide earlier this year for his role in the incident.
The incident intensified community tensions, with Koehler stating that road safety was a major concern for the locals.
"Koehler stated that the number of car accidents occurring is abnormally high, and not just the number, but the severity of them as well. When driving on a street with a 35-mile-an-hour speed limit and encountering a car sitting on its hood, which is not an uncommon occurrence with five or six accidents happening weekly, one cannot help but wonder."
"We have a wonderful town," Koehler said.
