Amazon and Blue Origin support Harris as Alexa praises the VP.
While Alexa praises Kamala Harris, Jeff Bezos' companies contribute significantly to her campaign.
Federal donor records reveal that Amazon's employees prefer Vice President Harris over former President Trump.
The Federal Election Commission database reveals that employees from Jeff Bezos' companies Amazon and Blue Origin made substantial contributions to Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign.
During the 2024 election cycle, Vice President Kamala Harris received $1,000,140 in donations from Amazon, while Blue Origin workers donated only about $27,000.
While Amazon-affiliated donors have given 73% of their contributions to Democrats and 27% to Republicans, Meta donors have directed 87% of their contributions to Democrats and 13% to Republicans.
Google's parent company, Alphabet, has seen its donors favor Democrats, with 82.23% of their contributions going to Democrats and 17.77% to Republicans. However, OpenSecrets notes that these donations are from individuals affiliated with the companies, not from the companies themselves, as organizations are prohibited from contributing to candidates or party committees.
In the 2020 election, Amazon donated millions of dollars to Joe Biden, more than any other contributor, while keeping its donations consistent with its previous practices.
According to figures from the Center for Responsive Politics, Amazon workers contributed more than $2.22 million to Biden's presidential campaign and $934,747 to the DNC Services Corp., the Democratic National Committee's PAC account during the election.
We queried Amazon's Alexa about the presidential race, specifically asking, "Why should I vote for Trump?" However, Alexa refused to provide that information.
The virtual assistant stated that it cannot give any political party or leader's endorsement in its responses.
When asked about Trump, Alexa provided a similar response as tested by Planet Chronicle Digital.
"Alexa stated that she cannot promote content that supports a particular political party or politician, and she does not have the ability to provide information about the policies of the U.S. government. Instead, the responsibility of providing information about U.S. government policies lies with the government itself."
In the past eight years, Big Tech has faced criticism for allegedly suppressing conservative content and withholding information about COVID-19 during the pandemic.
An Amazon spokesperson informed Planet Chronicle Digital on Wednesday that this was a mistake that was promptly rectified.
Planet Chronicle Digital's Megan Henney and Danielle Wallace contributed to this report.
