After the Trump assassination attempt, Fetterman calls for a reduction in political heat.
Sen. John Fetterman discusses his thoughts on the shooting at President Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., says the U.S. must "lower the heat" after President Trump's assassination attempt at a rally on Saturday.
During a "State of the Union" interview on Sunday morning, the senator described the shooting as a "dark day" and a "tragedy."
On Saturday, during the Trump rally, there may have been security issues that need to be investigated by Congress, according to Fetterman.
"We can't assume that such events won't happen again," Fetterman stated. "We simply need to lower the temperature and approach this election with caution. This election will be the largest in our lifetime, and we have months to prepare."
He added: I'm not gonna make it about politics."
On Saturday evening, a Democratic Senator was present at a vigil for a transgender teenager who had been murdered near an outdoor rally venue in Butler, Pennsylvania.
A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that two out of three Americans are concerned about the possibility of political violence following the election.
Trump's full recovery is something Fetterman is grateful for, while he also thinks about the rally attendee who was killed and hopes the two critically injured individuals will recover.
"Last night, as I drove back home from northwestern Pennsylvania, I was incredibly sad. I couldn't believe that this was the place where our nation is."
