After the Trump assassination attempt, Bedminster develops a VIP security plan.
Officials from the federal, state, and local levels gathered in New Jersey on Thursday for a meeting.
Officials from the federal, state, and local levels gathered in New Jersey on Thursday to discuss enhancing security measures for prominent individuals and providing financial assistance to communities, such as Bedminster, which have not previously received funding for such initiatives.
Steinhardt, a former NJGOP chair representing Trump's club, organized all potential stakeholders following the assassination attempt in neighboring Pennsylvania.
Steinhardt stated that it is our responsibility to protect President Trump and all our country's leaders, as he has been a strong advocate for our nation.
"The recent attack serves as a stark reminder of the increasing dangers they face. We cannot let our communities bear the financial burden of these heightened security measures alone."
After the meeting, Steinhardt informed Planet Chronicle Digital that a "significant step" was taken in the right direction.
Steinhardt stated that when high-profile figures visit our towns, the financial burden of providing enhanced security should not fall on local taxpayers.
"I am hopeful that we can achieve the balance necessary for Secret Service and local communities to safeguard President Trump during this time of increased political turmoil."
Kean's office mentioned a recently drafted law by the lawmaker that allows the Secret Service to reimburse state and local governments for coordinating VIP security.
The Pennsylvania State Police and other agencies had accused the agency of not collaborating effectively to prevent a threat like shooter Thomas Crooks following the Butler incident.
Larry Jacobs, the mayor of Bedminster, stated that the Secret Service requested township resources to safeguard Trump's club, and he referred to Kean at the time.
"The former president was always willing to answer the call to keep every resident in Bedminster safe," Jacobs said.
"We understand the Secret Service's request, given the July 13 assassination attempt. However, the cost of this request is too high for our small town to bear. We agree that Kean's Presidential Security Resources Reimbursement Act is the best solution," said Jacobs.
Kean shared a statement from a Somerset County official who expressed the same sentiments.
Since New York state has pursued Trump in court, the former president has been seen more often at his Bedminster club than at his namesake tower nearby.
Officials emphasized the importance of securing the Raritan Valley and providing resources to local and state concerns to continue the current trend.
