Against two other GOP contenders, Robert Burke secured the Republican nomination for Massachusetts' eighth congressional district with a substantial victory on Tuesday night.
Stephen Lynch, a 12-term incumbent Democrat, has been representing Massachusetts' eighth congressional district since 2013 and currently has over $1 million cash-on-hand, making it a challenging task for the videographer to defeat him in the upcoming election.
According to the Federal Election Commission's election finance database, Burke has not disclosed any funds raised.
In the 2022 general election, Lynch defeated Burke with 70 percent of the vote, while Burke received only 30 percent.
Milton, Mass.-based sports videographer Burke attended the College of the Holy Cross and worked as a federal probation officer before starting his own cleaning business and eventually pursuing his current career as a videographer, according to his campaign website.
Massachusetts' congressional delegation is entirely controlled by Democrats, with nine House seats and both Senate seats in their possession.
The eighth congressional district of Massachusetts is situated along the eastern coastline. In 2020, Biden secured this Boston-area district with 67% of the vote.
As expected, Kamala Harris is predicted to win the state this year, and has received endorsements from both Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, the state's Democratic senators.
