A socialist senator supports Harris' plan to fix prices: 'A crucial move forward'
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., endorsed Harris' economic plan that involves federal regulation of the food industry.
On Friday, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris' recently announced economic policy proposal, describing it as "bold and popular."
"Is it all that I would like? No," he said. "Is it an important step forward in making our country a fairer and more just society? Absolutely."
The proposal received praise from Sanders for addressing the requirements of working families and addressing the growing corporate avarice in the country.
Sanders has often characterized himself as a Democratic socialist and is widely regarded as one of the most left-leaning politicians in the United States.
On Friday, Harris' campaign unveiled her plan, which includes several policy expansions implemented during the Biden-Harris administration. The plan specifically aims to address corporate "price gouging" in the food industry by proposing a first-ever federal ban on it.
The child tax credit would be drastically expanded to grant up to $6,000 during a child's first year, while existing prescription drug price caps would be expanded to everyone, not just senior citizens.
Harris' economic plan includes creating a $40 billion fund to aid local governments in constructing more housing, while also implementing measures to target landlords.
Vice President Harris recognizes the need to create an economy that benefits everyone, not just the wealthy, as income inequality continues to rise and a majority of Americans struggle to make ends meet.
He stated that Harris comprehends the necessity of addressing the profit-driven practices of the food and beverage industry, which contribute to the escalating cost of groceries.
Democrats and Harris have been criticized by some for concluding that high prices are due to corporate greed. Republicans have quickly condemned the plan, arguing that it is the result of spending packages backed by President Biden and Harris.
"Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., stated in an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital on Friday that the 'price-gouging' experienced by individuals has been caused by Kamala Harris and Joe Biden's actions, which include artificially stimulating the economy through federal government spending and the Democrats' expenditure of trillions of dollars. The net effect of this is high inflation, high interest rates, high demand, and a lower supply."
Former President Trump stated on Thursday at a press conference that Kamala is reportedly proposing communist price control, but he believes that price controls do not work and have the opposite impact and effect.
A Washington Post columnist criticized the plan by stating, "When your opponent labels you a 'communist,' perhaps it's not the best time to suggest price controls."
