A professor of economics has advanced to the general election in the MN 8th House district, facing a Republican opponent.
The 8th Congressional District is considered a stronghold for the Republican Party, according to Cook Political Report.
In the House District- 8 Democratic primary held on Tuesday night in Minnesota, Jen Schuktz emerged victorious, defeating John Munter, the Democratic Farmer-Labor candidate. She will now advance to the General Election, where she will face off against Republican incumbent Rep. Pete Stauber.
The 8th Congressional District has been classified as a "solid" Republican district by Cook Political Report.
Munter of Warba, originally from Albion, New York, graduated from Duluth East High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 1972. He later obtained a degree from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in 1988 and worked as a writer and at Delta Airlines.
Jen Schultz, a Duluth resident for nearly two decades, teaches economics at the University of Minnesota and has served in the state legislature for eight years. During her time in the state House, she advocated for several bills aimed at increasing affordable health insurance, raising wages for personal care assistants, investing in home and community-based services, and closing corporate tax loopholes, as stated on her website.
