Whoopi Goldberg's cupcake purchase was hindered not by politics but a boiler breakdown at the NY bakery.
Goldberg claimed that the Staten Island bakery refused to sell her cupcakes because of her liberal views.
A Staten Island bakery owner has denied claims by "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg that the establishment refused to serve her due to her views.
On Wednesday, Goldberg revealed on a daytime show that the bakery had turned down her cupcakes because of her liberal beliefs.
Jill Holtermann, owner of Holtermann's Bakery on Staten Island, stated that they couldn't fulfill the order because of a boiler problem.
Holtermann thanked the public for their support after Vito Fossella explained what happened.
The boiler, which was 60 or 70 years old, malfunctioned during the first week in November, according to Fossella.
Holtermann thanked the community for its support in the wake of the controversy.
"I'm overwhelmed by the support we received yesterday, including phone calls and people coming in, from all over, just showing their support in every way," she said. "We received phone calls from Alabama yesterday. One person offered to give us $50 and send us donuts and cupcakes. The support has been overwhelming, and I know how hard my family has worked to keep this business alive."
On Wednesday's episode of "The View," Goldberg and her co-hosts commemorated her 69th birthday by enjoying Charlotte Russe desserts, a beloved New York treat that Goldberg revealed was her mother's favorite.
Goldberg revealed that her birthday cake nearly didn't happen because the bakery allegedly opposed her left-wing political views.
"On Wednesday, Goldberg stated that despite their ovens breaking down and various issues, people still retrieved them. She explained that her order was not rejected due to gender but because "they did not agree with my political views.""
