Trump's deportation plan is condemned as a 'disgrace' by Pope Francis.
Ahead of the inauguration, the Holy Father stated that Trump's immigration policies are not the solution.
The 47th U.S. president, President Donald Trump, has been criticized by Pope Francis for his mass deportation plan. The Holy Father weighed in on the anticipated operation, saying "if this is true, it is a disgrace." He added that it would impact the poor and the unfortunate, saying, "this won’t do. This is not the way to solve things. That’s not how things are resolved."
The day before Trump's formal swearing in to office, Francis gave his critiques during an interview. Following the interview, he sent Trump "cordial greetings" for his inauguration.
On "Varney & Co." on FOX Business, Tuesday, Jonathan Morris, a Planet Chronicle contributor and theologian, reacted strongly to the Pope's comments on the president's immigration plan.
Morris stated that it is only appropriate to criticize a policy from afar if one delves into the specifics and intricacies of the issue.
The former priest and resident theologian elaborated on how politicians can address immigration in accordance with the Christian and Catholic faith.
"Politicians have a responsibility and obligation to control immigration levels according to Catholic and Christian ethics."
On his first day in office, the president, who had campaigned on border security, declared a state of emergency and promised to initiate large-scale operations.
ICE officials are reportedly preparing to increase immigration arrests of undocumented individuals nationwide, according to top administration officials.
"Morris stated to host Stuart Varney that while it is true that anyone has the right to leave their country, they do not always have the right to enter another country, and certainly not to do so illegally."
The former priest commented on his interpretation of the Holy Father's message, but felt the criticism was misguided.
"I believe the pope's message is to be respectful of immigrants, but using blanket statements like "disgraceful" without explaining why it's disgraceful is a mistake."
