What Prepared Melania Trump to Become First Lady and Her Reflections on Her Marriage to Donald Trump
In an exclusive interview on 'Fox & Friends', the former first lady talks about motherhood and Barron's plans for college.
Melania Trump, upon becoming a U.S. citizen, had no inkling she would eventually become first lady a decade later. In a revelation on Thursday, she disclosed what had best prepared her for the unforeseen role.
The former first lady believes that her experience in the fashion industry has prepared her the most for her role as first lady in the public eye. She stated, "It's glamorous, but it's also very challenging."
"Fashion has prepared me for this world by giving me a thick skin, as people judge and look at me in a certain way."
Melania gave her first interview in two years with co-host Ainsley Earhardt, discussing her upcoming memoir, "Melania."
In 1996, she arrived in the U.S. from Slovenia and started her career as a model. A decade later, she proudly became a U.S. citizen.
She exclaimed, "I went through the process and that day was a big celebration. I was very proud."
Her career in the fashion industry brought her into contact with ex-President Trump, and the two rapidly developed a unique bond.
While dating, Melania stated that Donald never indicated any plans for a future presidential bid, but he was always politically engaged and attuned to global and national events.
The couple, who had been dating for six years, got engaged in 2004 and married in 2005.
Melania described her wedding day in Palm Beach, Florida as an exciting day, with a lot of activity, as she wanted to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Melania stated that what she loved most about her husband was his humor, personality, kindness, and positivity. She added that he was very special and had an incredible energy. She said that their relationship was beautiful.
A year after getting married, the couple had a son. Currently, Barron Trump is studying at New York University's Stern School of Business.
"Melania praised the young man's strength, intelligence, knowledge, and kindness, stating that it was admirable. She added that he was enjoying his college days and hoped he would have a great experience because his life was vastly different from any other 18 or 19-year-old child."
While Donald urged Melania to have more children, she was content with having just one.
"I'm fine with one because it's a busy life. I know how busy [Donald] is, and I'm in charge, so it's perfect."
The former first lady emphasized the importance of treating each of the former president's four children from previous marriages as individuals when entering a blended family situation.
"You have no control over others, but you can control your own behavior and words. Everyone is in control of their own self. I cannot control my husband or his children, as they are their own individuals. We all have yes and nos, and we are all unique individuals. The key to a fulfilling life is leading it with respect and love."
