'We will win': Harry Potter author marks five-year anniversary of speaking out against trans activists
Rowling wrote on X on Wednesday, "Five years ago today and my only regret is that I didn't speak out sooner."
J.K. Rowling, the creator of the "Harry Potter" series, commemorated the fifth anniversary of her initial social media post criticizing confrontational transgender activists.
Rowling reposted an old tweet from Dec. 19, 2019, in which she criticized those who fired a British woman for stating that there are only two sexes. This tweet marked the beginning of Rowling's five-year campaign against those who believe that trans women and biological women are indistinguishable.
On Wednesday, she posted a caption on an old post, expressing her regret for not speaking out earlier. She paid tribute to all the women who have suffered for their rights and those who are fighting against harmful medical experiments on minors. She stated that they will ultimately prevail.
Women should be allowed to express their opinions about sex without being forced out of their jobs, while individuals are free to dress, identify, and engage in consensual sexual activity as they choose.
Since the post, Rowling has been at the center of a heated cultural conflict online, resulting in the loss of employees, fans, and close friends.
In 2020, British actor Daniel Radcliffe, who played the title character in the Harry Potter film adaptations, wrote an open letter for The Trevor Project, denouncing J.K. Rowling's views on the LGBTQ community.

Watson wrote that he and many others worldwide recognize, appreciate, and admire his trans followers for their authentic selves.
In 2024, Rowling responded to the actors and stated that they could "save their apologies."
"Those celebrities who supported a movement that aims to undermine women's rights and encouraged minors to transition can offer their apologies to traumatized detransitioners and women who rely on single-sex spaces," she wrote.
Although Rowling's stance has faced criticism, she remains unwavering.
Since her initial post, the author has consistently criticized far-left pro-trans individuals online.
In a viral post from 2020, Rowling criticized an article that referred to women as "people who menstruate." The author joked about the phrase, asking for alternative words for "women."
Recently, Rowling criticized John Oliver for defending trans females competing in women's sports.
In a lengthy post from Nov. 2024, Rowling stated that she felt bad about John Oliver's video because he had given his time for her charity Lumos and she had liked him when they met, but she knew that if she ever needed an example of motivated reasoning and confirmation bias, this video was it. An intelligent person was spouting absolute nonsense to support something they wanted to be true, but wasn't.
