Vivek Ramaswamy highlights the issue of human and child trafficking in the US through a compelling film: "The Hidden Danger."
The film 'City of Dreams' will be released on August 30, depicting the tale of a young boy who becomes a victim of modern-day slavery.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, businessman, and entrepreneur, is highlighting the global human rights crisis of human trafficking through a heart-wrenching tale of a young boy whose aspirations were shattered when he was deceived and forced into child labor in the United States.
"Los Angeles" is where Jesús, a Mexican boy who had his soccer dreams crushed when he was trafficked across the U.S. border and forced into sweatshop servitude, finds himself.
"Vivek Ramaswamy, executive producer of "City of Dreams," shared with Planet Chronicle Digital during a video interview that he is a father of two sons. He explained that this made the movie about a young boy who reminded him of his own children uncomfortable for him because the boy's personality and spark in the film and his actual story were similar to his own sons."
Despite several attempts to evade enslavement, Jesus ultimately falls back into captivity.
Ramaswamy stated that learning about the extent of this issue will take you out of your comfort zone, as it is not just prevalent in other parts of the world, but also in the United States.
"Tony Robbins, one of the film's producers, stated in a phone interview with Planet Chronicle Digital that the film has the potential to transform and save lives. He emphasized that there are currently 12 million children worldwide who are enslaved, with many of them residing in the United States, yet the issue remains largely unknown to the general public."
In Haiti, Robbins assisted in a rescue mission that freed 37 enslaved children aged 7-14, which inspired him to share a child trafficking story.
"It never has left me," Robbins said.
Americans are unaware of the conditions of both adult and child sex trafficking, which involve forced labor and soldiering.
"Ramaswamy stated that it is unconscionable how little Americans know about this issue, and he believes it is inexcusable. He also stated that he is not blaming just politicians on both sides, but rather, both sides deserve blame for the lack of progress on this issue. Additionally, Ramaswamy acknowledged that he also deserves some blame for not doing enough to raise awareness about the issue."
Ramaswamy realized the extent of global modern slavery only after he ran for president.
The increase in migrant numbers each year, according to Ramaswamy, is a result of an open southern border contributing to the widespread issue of human trafficking in the United States.
"He stated, 'Let's be truthful. The outcomes we're facing at the southern border are a direct result of our failed policies in that region during the past few years.'"
The number of illegal immigrants who crossed the southern border increased by 183% under the Biden administration, coinciding with the end of the Trump administration and the start of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris's tenure, according to a FOIA report obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital in May.
According to the source, the number of illegal immigrants who evaded agents increased by 56% in 2022 and over 10% in 2023.
Ramaswamy stated that while there is a need for new legislation, the real issue lies in the enforcement of existing laws, which he believes should be the focus.
In 2023, the Human Trafficking Hotline reported that California, Texas, Florida, and New York had the highest number of human trafficking victims.
Approximately 27.6 million individuals globally are reported to be victims of trafficking, as stated by the U.S. Department of State.
Traffickers exploit and coerce millions of defenseless victims, some barely cognizant, into domestic servitude and sex acts, profiting off adults and children, often in their own homes.
"According to Ramaswamy, the issue of child trafficking, labor trafficking, and sex trafficking should not be viewed as a black versus white or Democrat versus Republican issue. Instead, if we cannot agree on the importance of addressing these issues, then we as a country are in trouble."
Ramaswamy stated that he is a concerned citizen with the goal of bringing about significant change in the U.S.
The "Woke Inc." author and "Truth" podcast host is urging wealthy philanthropists, activists, politicians, and everyday Americans to recognize the crisis and take action by educating themselves.
Ramaswamy stated that the power of a story or narrative can deeply affect individuals, stirring emotions and prompting action, even if the information is being presented in a more academic manner.
"City of Dreams" was written and directed by Mohit Ramchandani.
During story development, Ramchandani studied human trafficking cases.
Ramchandani shared with Planet Chronicle Digital during a phone call that he aimed to convey a human story and everyone has a dream.
Ramchandani wrote "City of Dreams" to reflect the way adults and children cope with difficult situations by seeking comfort in a positive environment.
"I thought it was a really interesting device," Ramchandani said.
Ramaswamy stated that while you won't become an expert on human trafficking in the US after watching the movie, you will certainly be moved as a human being.
The film hits theaters via Roadside Attractions Aug. 30.
