Viewership for MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' decreases as liberals criticize Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for meeting with Trump.
On Tuesday, 'Morning Joe' experienced a 20% drop in its viewership during the first hour compared to the previous day.
Since Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski revealed their meeting with President-elect Donald Trump, the viewership of "Morning Joe" has significantly decreased on MSNBC.
On Monday, during the 6 a.m. ET hour of their program, Scarborough and Brzezinski disclosed that they had traveled to Mar-a-Lago on Friday to meet with Trump, whom they had previously labeled as a "fascist" and a threat to democracy. As a result, thousands of viewers turned off the show.
On Monday, "Morning Joe" had 839,000 total viewers during the 6 a.m. ET hour, with 113,000 in the key demo ages 25-54. However, in the 7 a.m. ET hour, its total fell to 694,000 and just 70,000 in the advertiser-coveted demo. This was the opposite of the typical year-to-date "Morning Joe" ratings, which usually see the audience grow as more Americans wake up.
On Tuesday, MSNBC's morning show experienced a 20% drop in total audience and a 11% decrease in average total audience across its four hours of programming, with only 638,000 total viewers at 6 a.m. and 81,000 in the key demo.
In 2024, "Morning Joe" has averaged around 1.1 million total viewers during the 7 a.m. hour ET compared to 1.1 million starting at 6 a.m.
The meeting between Scarborough, Brzezinski and Trump has enraged liberals, including some MSNBC staff, who took to social media to criticize "Morning Joe."
Several prominent viewers and media figures have sworn they'll never watch again.
Rosie O'Donnell, an anti-Trump comedian, declared in a TikTok post that she will never watch "Morning Joe" again.
Jennifer Rubin, a left-wing columnist for The Washington Post and an MSNBC contributor, urged her audience to stop tuning in.
The co-hosts met with Trump for the first time in seven years on Friday, and they informed him that they disagreed on many issues, according to Brzezinski and Scarborough.
The hosts claimed that the meeting's purpose was to "restart communications" and they discussed topics such as abortion, mass deportation, and threats of retribution against political opponents and media outlets.
"Brzezinski stated that the reason for speaking to the president-elect during such tense times, despite the division between them, is a valid question. He added that five years of political conflict have caused deep divisions in Washington and the country, and they have expressed their concerns about President Trump's actions and words in the coarsening of public discourse."
"Although nearly 80 million Americans prioritized issues over election denialism and January 6, Joe and I recognize the need to change our approach and engage with Donald Trump in a different manner."
Since the grim Election Day for Democrats, liberal viewers have been tuning out the news, resulting in MSNBC's lowest-rated week and the exodus of "Morning Joe" viewers.
Since Election Day, all of the following shows had their worst weeks in key measurables: "The Rachel Maddow Show," "Inside with Jen Psaki," "The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle," "Alex Wagner Tonight," "Chris Jansing Reports," "Deadline: White House," "Jose Diaz-Balart Reports," "Katy Tur Reports," "The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell," "Morning Joe," and "The ReidOut."
