The video of Merrick Garland leaving the Department of Justice in a celebratory manner went viral online, prompting criticism from social media users.

Garland received cheers and applause from department staffers and other government officials as he exited the DOJ on Friday, but critics of the attorney general gave him a different reception on X, formerly Twitter.

"Merrick Garland, a pitiful hack, is finally being replaced by Pam Bondi, who will restore dignity to the DOJ. MAGA!" RNC Research wrote on X.

Throughout the four years of the Biden administration, the attorney general was frequently accused of corruption by conservatives and GOP leaders.

Garland admitted to personally approving the raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, which led critics to accuse him of weaponizing the department against President-elect Trump.

Garland has been questioned by conservatives about his department's treatment of Catholics, specifically regarding the DOJ's handling of attacks on Catholic churches following the overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022.

The FBI was accused of targeting Catholics, and Garland faced questioning at a congressional hearing about this allegation.

In 2021, the attorney general faced criticism from conservatives after he coordinated with law enforcement agencies to address harassment and threats against school officials.

Conservatives on X apparently did not forget his record in their reactions to the clip.

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., criticized Garland's record, stating, "Merrick Garland has left @TheJusticeDept for the LAST TIME. His DOJ targeted concerned parents. His DOJ targeted religious Catholics. His DOJ targeted political opponents. His DOJ was unprecedentedly weaponized. This disgraceful era of brazen political lawfare is FINALLY OVER."

Garland was described as "one of the greatest disappointments in recent political history" by Republican communications adviser Matt Whitlock.

The guy who went from Chief on the DC Circuit to a lawless political hack for the dark money groups that controlled the Biden White House also sent the FBI after parents for speaking out at school board meetings.

Merrick Garland, the current Attorney General, has damaged the credibility of the Department of Justice (DoJ) more than Eric Holder ever did, according to Gov. Ron DeSantis' press secretary Jeremy Redfern.

Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., criticized Merrick Garland, stating, "Merrick Garland oversaw the unethical use of the federal government against the American people. He has caused irreparable harm to the institution. Farewell."

Tim Young, a conservative columnist, criticized the DOJ staffers for clapping in a video of Garland's departure.

"If you can cheer for Merrick Garland, you should have ZERO influence on the justice system in this country once Trump takes office," he wrote.

Sean Davis, the CEO of The Federalist, directed his criticism towards the staffers who were applauding Merrick Garland or mourning his departure, instructing them to be identified and terminated.

Joel Berry, the managing editor of The Babylon Bee, concurred with Davis and responded, "Fire them all. Completely empty it out."

Planet Chronicle Digital has reached out to Garland for comment.
