Video captures family's harrowing evacuation from Pacific Palisades during Los Angeles wildfires.
A 11-year-old girl captured on video her mother leaving the wildfires that were ravaging the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The Pacific Palisades region wildfires forced a California family to evacuate, resulting in a terrifying escape that they captured on camera.
Lillian Davies, who is 11 years old, recorded a video on January 7th of her mother, Julie, driving down Palisades Drive in an attempt to escape the wildfires that had engulfed the area. The footage shows the sky to be a dark yellow color with smoke clogging the air. In the video, Lillian can be heard exclaiming, "We're literally driving into the fire."
As the family drove past the fires, Julie prayed for their safety and that of their community, saying, "Holy Spirit, protect all the houses, protect all the people-get everyone out..."
On Thursday, Lillian's family, including her 14-year-old sister Kelia, joined "The Faulkner Focus." Julie shared on the show that when she received the first evacuation alert, they were in the Highlands in the Pacific Palisades.
"We knew we needed to get out fast," she said.
"Julie explained that the fire was approaching "very fast," making her nervous when her car was temporarily caught in traffic near the end of Palisades Drive, which is the only road out of that area. At that point, it was uncertain how long they would be stuck there."
Lillian later revealed the reason behind her decision to record video while she and her mother fled. "I initially thought those were clouds, but it turned out to be smoke," she stated. "Then I saw the flames, and we exclaimed, 'Oh my gosh, there are the fires right there!'"
In the Planet Chronicle interview, Kelia, who was not in the car during the video, was asked about what was left in her local community.
"Although some buildings remain and some of our friends' homes still stand, most of it has been destroyed," she replied.
"Above all, the things we cherished and the places we frequented have vanished. As a result, it has been quite challenging. Nevertheless, we remain optimistic that God will provide assistance and help us navigate through this difficult period," she stated.
Besides Pacific Palisades, many areas of the Los Angeles metropolitan area were affected by ongoing wildfires, including nearby Eaton. These wildfires are among the most destructive in state history.
