Van Jones gushes over the DNC speeches of Barack and Michelle Obama: "Oasis in spiritual desert"
Jones stated that the Obamas rekindled the enchantment of the movement.
On Tuesday night, former President Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama were praised by CNN commentator Van Jones for their speeches at the Democratic National Convention.
"Jones praised both speeches as a masterful act of leadership. He considered it a sacred task and was impressed by how well they executed it. He didn't realize he was in a spiritual desert until they created an oasis on stage."
""I didn't realize how much I missed them until I realized I missed that," Jones said."
"Kamala Harris inherited the machinery of the party from Biden, while the Obamas renewed the magic of the movement by transferring it powerfully through nostalgia."
Obama allies played a significant role in urging Biden to exit the presidential race before he did, favoring a different candidate who they deemed more capable of challenging Trump.
Other media figures, including CBS reporter John Dickerson, also praised the speeches, describing the moment as "nourishing."
Dickerson stated that the two Obama speeches would fulfill that purpose.
Dickerson stated that the speeches serve as a "defense against what Donald Trump is doing, which is to imply that Kamala Harris is the opposite of him."
MSNBC commentator Michael Steele said the speeches were an important reminder for voters.
Steele stated, "It serves as a reminder: 'Wake up, you've been sleepwalking through some nonsense.'"
""We are so far removed from the Founders' worst day in dealing with slavery and women and others in this country that we are in a whole different space here," he said."
MSNBC host Rachel Maddow described Michelle Obama's speech as "stunning."
"She gave one of the best convention speeches I've ever seen, not just because of her speaking skills but because it was subtle, deep, thought-provoking, and surprising."
