University of Oregon official urges Trump voters to consider suicide.
The assistant director of the School's Fraternity and Sorority Life was placed on leave after a video rant in which they called Trump supporters concerned about grocery prices "stupid."
A University of Oregon official has been put on administrative leave after posting a rant about Trump supporters on social media, expressing his hope that they "go jump off of a f---ing bridge."
"If you voted for Donald Trump, you can go f--- yourself," Leonard Serrato, the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Oregon, said in a video clip. "If you're complaining about expensive groceries, get a better paying job. Improve your life. Get an education. Do something, because you're stupid."
Serrato said, "I hope you go jump off of a bridge," and gave a peace sign.
The Daily Emerald reported that Serrato shared his rant on his public Instagram page. Since then, he has made his page private.
Serrato did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Angela Seydel, a spokesperson for the university, stated in an email to Planet Chronicle Digital that the school condemns the statements made in the video and finds them inconsistent with its values and mission. She acknowledged the conflict between the statements, the individual's role in student life at the university, and the institution's values.
The Daily Emerald was informed by a different spokesperson that the individual who posted the content did so on their own time, which is within their rights.
The university is investigating the matter under its policies and the individual's role as a public employee, in addition to placing Serrato on leave, according to the spokesperson.
"We, as a public university, are committed to creating a welcoming environment that values diversity of thought and respect, in line with our educational mission," Seydel stated.
In anticipation of the election, the university devised a plan to alleviate students' election-related stress. This plan involved bringing therapy animals, including dogs, goats, and a duck, to campus, as well as offering additional counseling services, according to local media reports.
The election of Trump caused celebrities, pundits, and influencers to become disoriented on social media.
Cardi B, who supported Vice President Kamala Harris, stated in a deleted Instagram story, "This is why certain states experience hurricanes."
"Actress Christina Applegate wrote on X, "Why is my child sobbing about her rights as a woman being taken away? And if you disagree, please unfollow me.""
