'Uncommitted' Michigan voters unimpressed by Gaza portion of Harris' DNC speech: 'I'm still voting for Trump'
One woman from Dearborn stated, "You're spending our money on our families and expect us to be won over with just one good speech? I don't think so."
In Dearborn, Michigan, uncommitted voters shredded the portion of Vice President Kamala Harris' DNC speech mentioning Israel and Gaza, warning her that she may lose enough support from them to lose the election.
At the Democratic National Convention, Harris discussed the October 7 terrorist attack and the subsequent Israel-Hamas war.
"I am collaborating with President Biden to put an end to the war, ensuring Israel's security, freeing hostages, ending the suffering in Gaza, and allowing the Palestinian people to achieve their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination," she stated.
Yasmin Vossoughian interviewed several "undecided" voters, a group of traditionally Democratic voters who may not support the party in November due to their anti-Israel stance.
"She walked the line. She discussed Israel and how October 7th was terrible. However, it felt like she minimized the events of the past 10 months," one man remarked.
A man wearing a keffiyeh said, "If she had called for a permanent ceasefire and said, 'We need a permanent ceasefire,' I think it would have made a difference for me."
"We've been voting for Democrats for a long time, hosting them in our homes, donating to them, fundraising for them, and knocking on doors for them. However, our money is now going to our families overseas who are dying daily due to the direct results of this administration, which she is a part of."
A woman with a headscarf and keffiyeh strongly opposed Democrat backing of the ongoing Gaza war.
"I don't believe that a single good speech will be enough to win us over again after you've been spending our money on your families," she stated.
They are losing voters who will put Trump in office, and it's their fault, not ours. They are distancing their voters from them and not listening to their constituents. It's on them, not us.
During the Michigan primary in February, Vossoughian reported that while they were more decisively against voting for Biden, "This time around they seem more open" to supporting Harris.
Vossoughian stated that the group wants the woman to distinguish herself from President Biden in the upcoming 70+ days, emphasizing her stance on the issues and, as they put it, demand a permanent ceasefire, and let her actions reflect her words.
In the Michigan Democratic primary, 100,000 individuals voted "uncommitted" following a campaign that urged a protest vote against Biden's stance on Israel.
Michigan is home to one of the largest Muslim communities in the U.S.
